Trend Signals - Going UP? |
|
|
This is the part of trending that makes me nervous. Signal to move some back into equities.
One would intuitively think that the state of the world with terror and energy issues would force a downward signal, and yet, here it goes up. Intuition has let me down too often, so I am sticking with the trend, holding on with white knuckles.

Just an opinion! |
|
|
Could it be that we are getting a thicker skin when it comes to war, terrorism, high oil, and the export of jobs? Could it be the market has these all factored in? People are still buying goods and going out. They are just more conscious of the cowards that roam our world. Life goes on and so does the market because we are going on. I made a conscious choice to stay in the I fund the day of the “Cowards Attack”. I made that choice at the last moment thinking/hoping there would be some sort of rebound. A “in your face” to the “cowards” that you will not total disrupt our way of life. Maybe I am not the only one that feels that way? My prayers to those murdered or injured.

Trending up... More signals |
|
|
More positive trend signals indicate a stronger position in equities is warrented at this time. Trusting the trend going into traditionally weak periods will take some fortitude, but the last couple of weeks has helped to steel my confindence, and done a world of good in helping me break my inclination to trade on sentiment fears and enthusiasm.

Your'e probably right. I am sure I will miss the peak, but will get a signal to jump off the train before the next longer term consolidation. In any regard, left to intuition and sentiment, I would have jumped to 100 G fund after the terror strike in London, and would have missed the post terror rally altogether. So, if nothing else, trending has brought much stability (like an outrigger) to my investment practice.

The trade data from today certainly isn't going to help the I fund, at least in the near future.
I've heard various comments that middle of July is the weakest time for stock...today's markets not withstanding, think this is a good time to pull back into a G/F mix for a few days?

PandaShark,
A pullback might be a good move, depending on your strategy. My instincts tell me that we are entering a consolidation period. However, my instincts are usually the best indicator of the opposite. Kinda like George from the Seinfeld show, when he became successful doing the opposite. Knowing this, I stick to the trend indicators, and am holding on with both hands.
The one move I might make soon is to get totally out of the I fund, as we move towards the Fall season. I know, it's too early to think about it, but WalMart has their BackToSchool inventory on the shelves already. Can Halloween and Christmas be far behind?

Sarah, are you replying to a post that has been removed? I don't see any references to another site.

Asian and European markets are way up. S&P futures are up over 7 points. Apparently, with me sitting in the G fund, the markets are going to set records for consecutive up days until I flinch.

Dave, been there, done that. I'm buying the dips, selling the rallies in the C, S, and I, but very conservatively as we are extremely overbought now espcially in the C & S. I think those who are buying now will get their heads handed back to them in a week or two as we correct. This can't go on to much longer as gasoline approaches $3.00 a gallon. Marty.

We obviously don't know when the "fall" will come but I do know this. The easy money has already been made. What I will be looking for is a loss of momentum to the upside. If the rallies start weakening in strength, and the advance/decline lines can't hit new highs and start breaking uptrend lines the "fall" will be swift and will catch most off guard. Remember stocks fall faster than they climb. I'm still sticking with my very conservative allocations at this point, buying dips, selling up days. The F- fund is still trending down so I'm staying away from it for now. If I'm wrong and the market continues to go up strongly, I'll still make money although not as much, but if I'm right, I won't get hurt so badly as those who are fully allocated. The I-fund appears to have completed its base and may stage a major breakout soon to the upside so I like it the best even though the dollar is still strong. There are some signs developing that the dollar could correct soon too which would give the I-fund a little boost. Good luck to all, Marty.

Mlk quote: "Isn't TSPgo.com a website?"
I think a difference is that tspgo uses his page to post what he is doing & showing why & how he arrives at that conclusion. It would take up a lot of space on Tom's site if he did all that in the allocation talk pages.
And folks, as far as Tom's site and the money-talksites are concerned, I perceive them as two different approaches to the same goal: market savy & profit taking. I read them both now that I have remembered I had signed up here months ago - another demonstration of my dsylexic hyper add. If I let my guard down a minute I do what I just did on Tom's page this morning - hope I don't decide that that is fine-able too !
Now - I put the rest of the 20% from F into G this morning. I am planning on verifying whether it is actually possible, as stated by someone on `the other site' to cancel that ift between noon & 1600. ...if I remember ...
Happy trading to all !!! gma

So: what we all knew anyway:"You have an interfund transfer being processed for 07/15/2005 which cannot be changed because the deadline for changing or cancelling it has passed. This transfer is not yet reflected in your account balance. Your account balance will be invested as follows..."
And, of course, I wish I hadn't done that !!!

I was thinking that I should start a site called TSPawn.alt if the investment thing doesn't work out, then we could have a place we could market our personal valuables, i.e. radio alarm clocks, old cars, bowling trophies, watches and musical instruments.
