bankruptcy  Reply with quote

My son had fallen into the trap of marrying to young and becoming responsible for more debt then he could handle. After a short period of time there was divorce and the debt grew. Most of the debt came from the little angle that he was married to but all in all it was his debt, his credit rating and his problem. She ran away and escaped it all. My son ended filing for bankruptcy and is working very hard at turning his life around.
This all took place about four years ago and now he is working hard to establish good credit once again. He currently has a car loan, credit card, and savings account and contributes to a retirement account. Is there any thing else that he can do to help improve his credit rating? He will be 29 in December and would like to be able to buy a house sometime in the future.

tell him to not miss a payment on his credit cards and bank loans. Not sure about that 7 year thing unless his credit has been perfect for that time period. I've been told that late payments are the real killers of credit.

it pains me greatly to read about this kind of stuff. i sympathize for what your son has had to go through...

i would just say make sure he stays on track but it sounds like he's a good kid and is headed in the right direction.

be proud of that, not every parent can say that Smile

Getting that bankruptcy off his credit bureau is a good start. There are companies out there that can help him raise his credit score. There are a lot of scams out there also so be careful. Check out any credit repair company carefully. Research these companies out on the internet and any other method you can think of before spending any money. Credit repair is possible and affordable. Just be careful.
