How many of you spend money on advertising.  Reply with quote

I just put up my first two websites recently that I am hoping to generate some affiliate money with. I hear a lot about SEO and page rankings. Do any of you actually spend money on your advertising? If so, what would you say you spend on average per site to see good results?

I certainly do spend money on advertising, but as to an average to produce a certain result, I think that's pretty hard to predict and I don't track that closely. The bottom line is getting more exposure without spending more than you can recover in new business.

It doesn't always have to be in the form of ads run. I did run a $20 ad recently to get referrals for a paid discussion forum I use and got 20-30 new signups that pay me an average of $2-3 a month so my recovery is short, and that's my goal.

The other part of the equation that's even harder to measure is that this is a lead in program to bigger and better things, so it would be hard to track how many actually converted to something that paid even better later on, but it's almost a certainty there will be some.

The only paid advertising I am doing right now is Adwords. I try to keep my advertising costs to a bare minimum.

I am working on starting an offline ad campaign and running some solo ads in the future.

I just sent out some direct mail to people who have previously inquired about the lotto club.

Sometimes it is better to work with old leads then to always be chasing after new leads.

As in another post the old they say no four times before they buy theory.

My wife wants me to spend less time marketing and just run adverts.

Think she may have an overly optimistic view of adverts. If adverts could bring people in that easly MLMs wouldn't need to pay us commisons.

Last advert I did was for $40 and I skunked out. But perhpas if I run it again and again I'll get a new sing up?

Probabally shouldn't have ran the $40 advert. Went in to buy a cheap classified and let the guy talk me into a display advert. He gave me a free week for running 2 weeks.

As for PPC I went for the cheap clicks and got the campaign suspended for not actually getting any clicks. Perhps I should have ponied up more?

I use adbrite which as done alright for me. Don't get too carried away at first, always try to come out a little ahead, but remember, before you make big profits you have to invest money back into your business no matter what it is.

I spend money on advertising, but once my members count gets a little higher I plan on hopefully starting some kind of a refferal program for my site, and hope members spread the word

I spend money on advertisements, the posts are right, you need to keep an eye on your expenses. But we all know it's a numbers game, the more eyes, the more opportunities.

I just spent $4000 for an ad to run in a well known Chinese newspaper in the bay area, advertising a Chinese company with a high growth potential for investors. I received 5 calls... I thought I had the right target audience. I don't know what happened

I feel it depends on the service your offering to the community. I have ran ads that did great but found that I did even better funneling that money into other types of traffic generation.

If you decide to spend money on your campaign you have to watch over it and figure out if what you spent was worth it or not, and refine it.

I use adwords, it works fine. but sometimes, it could be expensive. I also spend money on link building too if you think it is 'ad' too.

SEO would really help if you know how to use it well, 80% of the time people are clicking organic results from SE's and do not click on the ads they see so you would really get the traffic and possible leads that way.

I am spending money on some PPC campaigns, but don't do it often, because I am not exert in this field. So I am buying text links and some high quality sponsored articles and it consumes about 2k$/month

Posting articles to the Internet is also a great way to gain awareness of your company. Just make sure the content is original!

sometimes FREE can out pull paid. Back when I had the icky rental unit we did better with a FREE advert then one we paid $153 dollars. The expencive newspaper advert had a big circulation but most lived away from the area of the rental.

A local add sheet a realestate agent put out did way way better.

Probably to post trammed from the rental biz to mention this earlier.

Advertising can produce amazing results and great revenue and profits for the ADVERTISER! Unfortunately, the dollars that you spend in advertising, you will never see again! That goes into the advertiser's pockets and not your own! There is a major change happening in America. Why do you think that local newspapers and the major broadcast channels are losing money and firing employees? Many companies are not seeing a positive return on investment (ROI) using traditional methods.

Thanks
