3 simple changes that will increase your sales!

CopyRight (C) 2006 by Blaz Banic,

If you want your sites to produce more sales or get more
opt-ins, then this is the most important article you'll
ever read...

I've been into copywriting for a year now and just recently
I've started to produce at least mediocre copies for my sites.

I've gone from 0.153% conversion through 0.8% conversion to
about 1.03% conversion. I've gone from roughly 1% opt-in rate
through 18,3% opt-in rate to 48.56% opt-in rate.

How did I do it? What did I have to change in order for it
to go so much better? You probably think I had to redo my
entire copy, right?

Well, I almost haven't changed a word in the entire copy --
except the headlines and some text at the "Sign me in"
portion of the copy...

Wanna know WHAT worked so well?

Thought you'd never ask...

OK, now I'll tell you the three little changes I made to my
copy that contributed to the opt-in rate to be so high, so
get a pen and paper or just print this article out now so
you'll never loose it when you do another copy...

Change ONE: Credibility is a No. 1 issue for people to
actually purchase a product or opt-in to yet another
newsletter. So, how do you build credibility on your site
for a person to trust you enough to give you their name
and email address?

Well, people say put testimonials on your site, put proof
there (screen shots of commissions from your affiliate or
merchant account...), put your picture on the site, address
and company name at the bottom... The problem was that I
didn't have any of those things (except for the picture and
my home address I didn't want to share with a lot of people).

So, I went and took a look at many other sales letters,
squeeze pages and so on and found there are certain traits
all of these sites have in common... They make you feel as
if this is really for real. It's professional looking, like
from a magazine where big companies put a one page ad where
you can cut out an "order form" and send it to an address
for a free gift...

Nice, so why not steal that anchor (see "Pavlov dogs" for more
on anchoring) and put it in my copy. I've heard Mark Joyner talk
about it and also read it in the book "Web Copy That Sells" by
Maria Veloso.I didn't get it back then so I didn't put it on my
site. I also didn't feel like I was worthy of such an opt-in form
and if I'm allowed to use it...

But one day I did it (just to see how my site would look with
it) and liked it very much, so I just put my web site on the
server and brought some traffic to it... What do you know, it
actually boosted response...

So, how to do such a cool opt-in form?

Simple, you put it in a separate table within the sales letter.
Set the background to a nice pastel color ( e.g light brown to
yellowish -- like almost all such forms out there). Set border
to one and style to "dashed". When using styles, you can set
the thickness of the border to 3-5 pixels. The "border 1" is
in case a visitor is using Netscape or Firefox that don't
currently display such borders. The border can be in black
or red color.

Inside that form write something like this:
Yes! I'm ready to subscribe to your amazing...newsletter. I
understand that with it I get a bonus of... You get the
picture. Here you want to write in the first person -- as if
they are thinking this to themselves. You can also add "I'm
entering my name and primary email address below now!"...

But I went a bit ahead of myself, first I did two other quick
adjustments...

Change TWO: I thought: "What else makes those sites
trustworthy?". I noticed they all had a signature right below
and to the right of their sub-headline. A blue hand-written
signature. I've also heard Michael Fortin talking about it
once, but didn't pay much attention to it. Now it made sense,
so I scanned my signature, made it look cool with PhotoShop
and put it there as an image. WOW -- my site was transforming
before my very eyes.

But I had to do something else...

Change three: I had to format my letter so that it was easily
readable... I set my cell padding to 20 pixels -- so the text
started 20 pixels from the border. It has a nice effect -
borders give the eyes a reference point and putting the text
a bit away from the borders took the strain away. I also
broke long paragraphs in simple-to-read few lines of text.

OK, this are the three things I changed to get much better
results. Keep in mind that the basic copywriting "standards"
were met before -- riveting headline, bullets, sub headlines,
the job of the first sentence is to make a person to read the
next one, create a sense of urgency, call to action...

But once I added what I described above I got a much better
response. And guess what -- people were mailing me and
were treating me as a real Internet marketing guru of some
sort which I wasn't then and am not now. But I'm doing quite
well and I like it that way.

The point of this article is to get you doing what works and
to get you to realize that you HAVE TO let yourself implement
these techniques. You ARE WORTHY and if you don't do it you'll
have much less results than you could have.
