Hi! (or insert favorite generic intro post title here)  Reply with quote

Ok...I suck at intro posts.

I'm Safora, Rolo's wife. I thought I'd join the board because I eventually want to try investing a bit on a small scale to see if I can do it. I also want to look into ways to make some extra income. My goal is through investing and some type of business to be able to quit my regular job. I have to be able to make about 3K a month to do that.

Anyway, I am looking forward to meeting everyone here.

Hi Safora, glad to see you here!

You'll definitely learn a lot if you stick around here.

She actually does listen to my market banter with genuine interest. (as opposed to listening just for listening...not for content)

I know you'll do great...Rolo's pretty dumb, but seems to be good with money--so if all else fails just take his profits...haha

Welcome...

Did J.Dub1 put you up to this?

I am noticing that. And noticing how much there is to learn. Thats ok, I have a great in-home tutor on the subject and I think this board will expose me to more concepts so I will know what questions to ask.

Nope, though I know he is glad I am interested. Actually I asked him if I could post here because I wanted to learn more about investing and business. Even though J handles all the finances, I would like to try to invest a little bit myself, just to see what I am capable of. And honestly I like $, but what girl doesn't right?

My main goal though, is to figure out how to work outside the house as little as possible. I have an amount of $ I am required to make each month for the financial plan to work. I'd like to be able to make some of that happen from here.

I encourage you to think in terms, not of current income, but of growing you net worth over the long term. Then sometime far in the future, when you don't want to put your capital at risk any more, you can convert those assets to an income stream.

That's investing. Wink

That makes sense. I think clairifying my goals to myself is where I need to start then huh?

I want to do focus both on short term and long term investments. However, I don't have to worry too much about investing for retirement because J handles that. Anything I make is extra. Really, I just want to see how well I can do at investing. Also my job hours are very flexable in that I can pretty much decide the # of hours I want to work a week. If I need full time one week I can usually get it and if I don't want to work at all the next week I don't have to. I think that probably puts me in a position where I can handle a bit more risk. Thoughts?

What she means is, according to our FinPlan, she is required to maintain a minimum amount of cash-flow.

That's exactly what I need...the correct perspective in order to detach and keep my emotions under contol.

Huh, I thought I said that. Coherent thought is such a PITA. Thank God we can translate for each other.

Ain't it great? I needed Rolo's translation. Laughing

It's just our way, to clarify for each other. We both sometimes run into trouble communicating clearly so we help each other out when we can.

Wink Actually, I had no issue with the pre-nup. If we were to divorce, I would have no desire to take from him. If signing a pre-nup eased his mind then I was fine with that.

I think a girl refusing to sign a pre-nup would be a huge red-flag. It would appear to me as though she felt entitled.
