What does FREE really mean?  Reply with quote

It would be interesting to find out how many opinions there are on the true meaning of "FREE". My opinion is that there is very little you can get for "FREE", if anything. Most of the free items you get are gimmics to buy services or products. Anyone who disagrees with me, please express your point of view. Thank you for participating.

"Free" is being able to use and enjoy the gifts that God gave you without stepping on the rights of your other human beings.

You can not become free by accepting to be occupied

So if someone comes up to you as you're standing in front of a hot dog stand licking your lips and drooling and slaps a Two Dollar bill in your hand, that's not free because he just wants you to spend it at his business, right? My God, he might even expect you to come back when you have your own money!!!

Some people want the moon with a string wrapped around it before they give you credit for helping them out. Cut me a break, free is free no matter what the motive someone has for giving it to you. If you don't appreciate it after you get it and you haven't lost a thing. THAT'S FREE Just throw it away and move on.

I get free things on the Internet about every day and I have profited from a LOT of them. If nothing else, I may just learn something new.

Free is not having to pay for something - it doesn't matter if it's an advertising ploy - if you don't buy into it you can still walk away happily with your freebie.

I'm the queen of freebies and in the last month I have received a book, environmentally friendly bag, a pashmina, tea bags, shower gel and a magazine.

They are all advertising their product and if I like it that much I will buy it - doesn't mean that I didn't get my freebie for free!

I think the Rainbow song that goes "You get nothing for nothing and nothing is ever free."

Yes I've had my share of "free lunches" but someone else paid for them.

Well I prety much agree with most of the posts when in regards to free. No such thing as free.

I kow many can a search of the meaning of the word free. http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/free . But this is a good question that really hasnt been answered. Many people have used the definition in the transitional verb tense of 1. To relieve of a burden, obligation, or restraint or 2. To remove obstructions or entanglements from; clear

To expand upon the question...  Reply with quote

I've been thinking about this lately as there are so many supposedly free services out there that one is introduced to it's hard to know what has a hidden price. One thing I've been wondering about is this new 4info text messaging service I've been using. They are 100% free and I'm wondering how they do it as there are no adds to speak of anywhere and you get your requested info - be it sports scores, flight status, package tracking, weather, the list goes on and on... completely free of any sort of promotion. You'd pay to send a text message if you don't have that service on your cell phone plan but that money doesn't go to 4info, it goes to your provider so how do they do it, much less do it well? They must partner with the services providing the info or something. If that's the case they must be doing quite well as they're connected to virtually everything. Whereas google sms is a bit more generic, this service is far more specific with much more relevant results. I'm going to have to investigate the company a bit further as they are really improving the technology and are bound to hit big. I found them by accident browsing a Treo board. If you're interested they're online at www.4info.net.

Free is ususally a red flag for scam, or poor product. My grandmother had a saying, the cheap pay twice.

My guideline is if they want your credit card number, it's not free.
