Have you suffered from money related stress?  Reply with quote

More than two UK residents in five have experienced 'Money Sickness Syndrome' - where concerns over finances cause stress affecting the rest of your life.

The physical symptoms of Money Sickness Syndrome can include palpitations, shortness of breath and headaches, a 'tight' feeling in the stomach, nausea and diarrhoea, indigestion, a lack of appetite and poor sleep.

Are there any inanimate objects left that are not labelled a 'syndrome' of some sort?

Financialchoices:

I am sure there is not an honest person here that has not experienced money related stress of some sort. Many cases lead to marital break-ups and other devastating results. The physical symptoms are an extreme result of the stress. If an individual experiences physical symptoms, they should seek medical attention, or possibly psychological help.

I've never suffered anything to that degree. However, I have had ties when I'd tense up when my wife said "I just bought xyz." Then we started budgetting and now it doesn't bother me because we know how much we can afford to spend.

Nothing like needing a study to state the obvious. Confused The symptoms they list are symptoms related to any anxiety and stress. It is not specifically related to money. Of course someone will be stressed if they don't have enough money to pay bills or feed themselves, however being in poor financial shape is not a mental disorder. I think I have "stupid people sickness syndrome." Razz (Not directed at OP, but at people who float these ideas)

As to the original question. Yes I've had serious stress in relation to money issues and did experience many symptoms of anxiety at the time. But that is a normal reaction to being evicted/heat being shut off in the middle of winter/being arrested for driving without insurance etc. My day to day is far less stressful now that I don't have money issues.

Anybody that has ever experienced having a high credit card balance for a long time (months - years) has felt the sickness. They might not have noticed what they were feeling, but I guarantee you that as soon as they finally paid off that debt they felt a relief of the sickness!

Well, I am sure most of us experienced money sickness syndrome.

But, what can we do?

If we don't worry about the money, we can as well go and sleep on the street.

But look at the silver lining, now that it is a syndrome we can get a prescription and the problem will go away.
