A good web host? |
|
|
I need a few recommendations for a good web host. I was looking at yahoo, they are 9-12 dollars a month for a domain name, email service, 5gb disk space, 200 email address, all the way up to 30 per month for 20 gb, 500 emails, and so on. Is that good? I researched for awhile but I thought it would be better to stay in here and ask some experienced people like yourselves. I would appreciate any posts especially with details like what is good gb for disk space, and other site specs. Once again thanks to everyone in advance for posting their thoughts.

What's the purpose of your new website?
The plan you need to buy depends upon what you want your site to do.
You've got tons of fun options to consider.

Thanks again for the replies everyone. To answer the question above my website will be about Michigan High School football. It is the state I live in and I was a pretty good player so it is something that interests me and there seems to be a lack of quality sites for it out there. I would like some forums, along with profiles on teams and players, stats, records, year by year analysis etc, etc. Does anyone know if i will need anything out of the ordinary for my storage since there will be a forum. Or if it costs any extra money? If there is anything else you think I may have left out please feel free to say something.
But besides that I think that is all. Thanks again for any responses!

Oh, one more thing! |
|

I went to godaddy and I like what they have to offer but one thing I was curious about was the site builder. With yahoo! I believe, although I am not sure that there site builder is free. Can anybody confirm this? If it is free with yahoo I think I will just stick with them but who knows. Thanks.

I've used Godaddy and it is very manual, you have to learn some html coding. Not sure about the Yahoo builder, but if you're looking for something simple to use look into SiteBuildIt (the link is in my sig below).
I've used them too, it's basically like typing your content into a word processor. They cost a little more than the bare bones providers but you do get more for your money and the customer service is excellent.
ps - they're currently running a buy 1 get 1 free special now until 12/25, so you can have two sites instead of one for the same price.
whatever you decide, good luck!

If all you really need is a forum, you can get that for free with one of the free web forum websites like ForumWise. It's customizable and you can add a portal homepage similar to the one here at Money Talk.

After five years experience being a web designer and hosting supplier let me give you a few pointers to watch out for.
The fact that the host I use provides 15 Gigabytes of storage and 300 Gigabytes of Data Transfer (more than you will need) pales in comparison to the fact they run on a 2.5 Gigabyte connection for fast response times.
There is nothing worse than having your visitors hit your site and get sluggish response, they may never be back. Especially when you have an active Forum which is not a trivial application.
You also get a free domain name included, Site Studio for easy website creation and pre-configured scripts of which two are Forum systems. All this for 6 bucks a month.
Spend a few more minutes to check out http://nomoreprograms.com/web-host/ and you won't be sorry.

I'd go with www.lunarpages.com . The packages are incredible value, with vast bandwidth plus lots of nifty software packages available to install direct from cPanel. Oh and the prices are pretty good too.
