add your site to free diretories helps some. Also link exchanges work well also.

Word of mouth is a powerful, yet overlooked tool to get people to your site. Some good ideas would be to tell your friends, go to events related to the topic of your site and tell people about your site.

Lots of good ideas here. Spend some time submitting to free directories and do some searches on businesses similar to yours, check where they are linking to and try and get the same type of links.
