kids earning money??? |

Hi everyone, i'm looking for some information regarding my daughter making money.
this is a fairly strange issue because she's only 12, but she has been playing an online game for about 5 months now and recently she found out she could make money with this game by selling the money she is making in the game, so at the thought of that she came to me and asked if she could start selling some of her hard work on the game (the money she's been making on it).
now i'm unsure wether to say yes or no, for two reasons
1 we live on benifits because we also have a disabled son of 6 who is a full time job in him self for 2 people
2 because the place she wants to sell this money is ebay.
so what i'm trying to find out is can a 12 year old make money? are they allowed? if they can is there a limit to what they can make? because i've looked at what she's wanting to sell and seen the prices on ebay and she's potentially able to make 6-700 pounds a week.
now i don't mind her making money at all and she's put all the hard work in so why shouldn't she be able to reap the benifits of her hard work, but i just don't know where it stands with everything.
would anyone be able to shed some light on this for me? then i can let her know if she can or can't go ahead with it.
thanks in advance

I'm guessing it's a game such as World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, or Diablo II...
For some games it's "legal" for others its "illegal"
I say that in quotes, because nobody will be thrown in jail if she is caught selling, but for the "illegal" ones, she may have her accounts disabled.
Also, for many of these games, there are literally companies (mostly in Asia) where they have a group of 50 or so people, "playing" for 8 hours a day making 50 cents/hr while the owner turns around and sells everything they just worked for for a few thousand dollars.
One 12 year old girl really can't compete with that kind of service. It's like having a lemonade stand next door to the lemonade factory.
She might make a few bucks, but it really won't be a lot. After eBay and PayPal take their fees, that $1 per item amounts to maybe $0.25 per item.
I say this to you as someone who has made around $500 selling video game items on eBay. However, I had programs set up that would do the work automatically while I slept. In the morning, I'd see what I got, keep what I thought would be worth selling, and then listed it. For that $500 I probably did a total of maybe 40 hours of work over 2 months. ($12.50/hr, no taxes).
(All my prices were in US Dollars)

Yeah, I sold Diablo II items for a while back in the day when I was about 16 or so. I made maybe like 90 bucks in a month tops - and most of that came from selling in game, including a lot of effort beyond game play - eg convincing people to pay you first.
She might make a couple bucks on the items she has or finds assuming they are ultra rare elites or something, but the Chinese Gold Farmers are going to make any kind of long term profit negligable. Also, many of them have bots that just kill the same thing over and over all night to collect items for sale.
I did this for a while running 4 diablo clients at once on my pc and just checking it each day, then trading whatever I found for the most profitable selling items. Ultimately this was a fruitless endevour that did little more than ruin the fun of the game for me. So, let her sell one or two things - but don't let her get caught up in trying to make a huge profit. If nothing else, she might learn a little bit about ebay and business, which couldn't hurt.

I know Runescape also has a market on eBay however if they or probably any game find a connection between your daughters character and selling the items through ebay your character could be banned or suspended. You may be able to get away with it though.
I was actually in a position to make $10 for every 2 hours of work on my part and 2 hours of work from an autominer in Runescape (selling money through eBay) however I was not aware that ebay would give out my personal information if a company (Runescape) requested it and I ended up getting suspended and was not able to do it again.

You have to check the individual policy of each game publisher.

This is very possible to do. Although I would NOT recommend doing it threw E-bay as there are other more active sites out there.
Sent you a PM redfang to help out with sites.
As for makeing money and affecting your benifits, as long as you don't make more then $600 threw one paticular site you should be fine. Although it seems like you are from Europe somewhere so this may not be the same for you.
