Recently my friend received a Letter in the mail. The whole "5 names on the list, send $10 to the person at the top, then put your name on the bottom". Ive read numerous threads and numerous articles on the internet about this scam, but only ever read about it in america, which is why it surprised me to know it was happening in Australia. Well, not really surprised, but i digress. I always thought that this scheme was abit stupid, and a waste of money.
But the fact remains that my friend immediately posted off the letter, and dutifully sent the $10 to person No.1 on the list.
This is an illegal scheme, as we all know. But it strikes me as one that works, and may not always be recognised as a scam by everyone, especially not some of the people involved.This scheme, and many like it are scams, but the fact remains that people still do it, and therefor make money off it.
My friend has recieved $50 to date, 7 days after sending off his own $10. I am not endorsing or trying to promote such scams, but the more epople that get sucked in, the more others make money. So are they getting sucked in, or just taking a chance with $10?
A scam? or more like just a moral dilemma of wether to abide by the law or not? What do you guys reckon?

I think that your friend was very lucky to receive some money in return. In general, you should stay away from these type schemes. The only person making money is the person on top.
You may also want to remind your friend that it is illegal to do this.

I reminded him, but he was right in thinking he could get away with it, that sort of thing would be extremely hard to monitor id imagine.
Ah well, some people jsut get lucky off of others stupidity.
