Secure future, but broke at the moment  Reply with quote

I am 21 years old, have recently graduated college and find myself in an interesting spot. I worked full time through school and paid for all of my schooling (about 16k or so) without taking any loans. I also bought my car (about 13k) without taking any loans so i find myself without any credit. During school i worked at a construction job bringing in close to $600 a week but i have since had to take a pay cut for the prospect of making more in the future.

At the moment i am an electrical apprentice and only make 13$ an hour but when i complete my certification in 3 years i will be guaranteed at least $26. So the problem i am facing is that i only have like $3000 in the bank, have no credit and barely make enough at the moment to pay my bills. Within about a year and a half i will make enough to be comfortable and wont just squeak by, but until then things are going to be tight. Basically i want to build credit and have a little more money in the bank to feel more secure. Is there any way that i can take out a loan in the 10k range that i will not have to start making payments on for a year or two? or is there any other way that i can get a longer term loan that i will not have to pay most of until a year or two down the road?

Any help is appreciated, i dont really know anything about loans/credit so sorry if this sounded ignorant.
