Google's Gmail |

Hello Everyone,
Google's FREE Gmail has been announced today offering more space than hotmail. They are most likely going to have advertisements within the email. This is something to think about.
Take Care,

1 gigabyte to be exact.
That is a lot of space, plenty I would think. I'm eager to try out their spam filtering technology, with Google's technology they might be able to do a really good job at it. Plus you'd have the power of a Google search on your emails, that would be handy. Some are concerned about the possibility of a competitors ads being shown to customers in business emails and that kind of thing. Anyone interested in getting an account soon? Any concerns?

...and it's a lot more than the Hotmail offering (which, from memory, is only 2MB for the free account). Google are having a few problems with the trademark, though. Apparently it was already registered to a company in the UK called Market Age.

Seems that Google thought that they were going to be hailed as the saviors of free email, but actually got several slaps in the face after their April Fool's press release of GMail. Privacy concerns, boycotts, petitions, blocked GMail emails and trademark issues. Probably not what the big G was expecting.

Out of interest, does anyone here have a Gmail account? I think they were doing BETA testing with people using Blogger... anyone else managed to get an account yet?

I submitted my email through their form a while back, but haven't heard anything. I think my enthusiasm has cooled to some degree anyway at this point. The closest I've come to GMail is this...

Personally, I love Gmail, it is so much faster and gives you so much more space than any other free webmail service. The best part is that it auto-refreshes, so you know almost immediately if you recieve a new message.

I've had Gmail for a long time now, and personally, although there are definite plusses, I still prefer my hotmail account. I never use more than 5% of it, I prefer the layout and such, and it's linked on my My MSN, which is my homepage.

I use Gmail but still prefer my Yahoo account. I got fed up with Hotmail and never went back.

I use my Gmail for everything.
They just upgraded the storage to over 2 Gigs and now that I can set up the POP settings to deliver/send directly from Outlook, there are no ads and it actually has more storage for pics, vids than the email I get from my ISP.
I've had no problems with it whatsoever.
And along with Google Desktop, I can search through all of my emails in seconds.

I used it a while back just to try it out.
The file size limit was 10 MB, so that was one of the problems I had.
Other than that and slow upload (which really just depends on you connection) it was fine for some purposes.
