Will the USA ever have a 51st state?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was in the first grade my teacher said that Puerto Rico would be our 51st state by the year 2000?

Well she was wrong. Will the USA ever have a 51st State.

If Puerto Rico does not want the honnor how about New Zealand?

Who would you like to see be our 51st state?

I don't know if that will ever happen. PR doesn't want to be a state.

Think of all the ripple effects that this would have...

- All the flags would have to be redesigned with one more star
- All the websites would have to be updated to add the new state to their drop down list
- All the maps and globes would need to be redesigned.

Wink

Hey maybe this would be a good way to spur the economy!

50 is such a nice round number (given that we have 10 fingers), that's another reason why it will be unlikely to change. Wink

I agree with Andrew for generally the same points. Puerto Rico doesn't even like us much...

the puerto rican people are much better off not being the 51st state. if they were they would be taxed and exploited just like u & i are.

Washington DC wouldn't mind being 51. Anyway, I could see DC becoming a state before PR.

Well, you know, there is a reason that Washington DC is located between states... Besides, it is the District of Columbia for all voting (etc) purposes, so there wouldn't really be a point.

I think the blue states and red states should become two different countries! Laughing

But really, it doesn't matter either way.
