Welcome Granny!  Reply with quote

Hi Granny, welcome back. Hope you can gain some insight into the markets, it can get quite confusing at times. Even though we chat with each other here, our TSP allocations are all completely different. Everyone has different risk tolerances, and different goals, but we all gain in learning thru others opinions. Good luck, and best wishes. Marty. Very Happy

A couple of very interesting articles can be found currently in The Economist. Both have to do with the worldwide speculative bubble in housing prices and the consequences of its eventual deflation:

In Come the Waves

After the Fall

Both may have been mentioned here previously, but if so, I missed it.

Thank you for the Welcome!!
Are there rules about posting in the `accounts' section? ...ie: before noon?

Boy - there is alot of gadgetery here! I looked for a `help' button, but I don't seem to be able to locate what tells me all these different buttons are for! I have discovered I don't know how to add an emoticon....probably to somes' relief!!

Will the huge equity erosion continue today? Or will there be a rebound? Will POO (price of oil) continue to play havoc? What do you think? IMHO, oil is likely topping at this level and should slowly come back down to the low 50s/hi 40s.

My feeling, at this point, is that you're right re: oil. I think the price has been driven more by speculation than anything, and that will now see a bit of a pullback.

Frankly, I think equities will trend up overall over the next month at least, though that trend will proceed with fits and starts. So I guess we'll just have to see what happens in July.

I-fund Logic  Reply with quote

Basically EFA chart action. So far it is able to stay above its 20 day EMA, dragging it up. On a price relative scale it is currently outperforming the C and S funds. The F-fund looks interesting here, and worth some allocation. The only fly in the ointment is the US dollar which is still in an uptrend and can hurt the I-fund performance somewhat but there is also the possiblility that the Euro may have hit a bottom here too which could help the I fund should it start back up again. I think the places to be going forward are the I and F funds, but of course anything can happen and its just my opinion. Marty.

Looks like we may have scaled the peak with equities, and the trend is moving a little south, so accordingly, I am beginning a retreat. Another couple of days like the end of last week, and it will be time to join the others in the bomb shelter. However, this may not yet be an extended pullback, and if this is just healthy consolidation, I do not want to find myself out, when I should be in. The surface is choppy, but the deeps still seem to be okay. This week should flip the signals one way or the other.

Well getting out last week looked like a good move........until today. The key now is to try to get back in at a lower point than I got out. If the markets go up tomorrow, that window will have closed.

"The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, which oversees the TSP, plans to spend $10 million to get the word out on the L funds. Board officials have made offsetting cuts in the agency's budget to cover the costs of the rollout campaign."

If their budget can absorb this much($10 million) , how much of their budget is bloat and padding? Grrrrrrrrr...

do you interpret that P.Rico took offense when I replied to his information about this - I was asking who was going to pay for this? I admit I worded it a bit weird - - if `agin'ers' have to help pay costs- I'm ignoring his comment about `badge' (bash?) cuz I don't think he understood I was simply asking a question. ...and explaining (for me) gets complicated... (as you can see..... Rolling Eyes .)

No he didn't grandma, he just didn't understand what "aginers" meant. I didn't either........ Laughing

As far as his comment about badges, it's a statement made by a Mexican fella in a movie some time back. I believe it was a western. Meant to be funny.

Thanx, Mlk, I feel better - cuz I like PRico & wouldn't want him to think i'm being rude.
A'giners: I'm a'gin this, I'm a'gin that - I thought it was a goldminer's term - against - oh, well - [/i]
