Internet Prosperity for a 14 year old? |
|
|
Heh, Hello everybody. As the title states, I am 14 years old.. And I want to get started on earning money now! Why wait untill I am an adult?
First, a little background on me.
1. I know basic HTML, And have made a site before (that well, tanked because i had no funding and no content really, it's still open. You can see it at Kbanimations.com) I also have good experience With Macromedia flash and can make fairly good-looking menus, sites, etc. in flash.
2. I have lots of time. I'm homeschooled right now, and I have plenty of time to learn, and plenty of time to work at making a profitable site.
3. I learn quite fast, and would be willing to learn what I needed to, to make it work.
4. I could get my dad to help. He has NO knowledge of HTML or web design, but he could help with Things like shipping (if I did an online business) or even just being over 18 for things where that's necessary.
5. I am willing to be patient with this, and again I have plenty of time to work with. I do know it's no easy task and will be quite tough.. But I think eventually I can make it work.
6. I can't even get a job yet where I live, and I REALLY dont want to be kicking myself for not starting early when im 23 and struggling to make ends meet or something Well, I want to avoid that all together, and esp. Be able to pay for my own college when I am 18, and want to be able to Open a roth IRA with around $10,000 at around 20 years old, for something to retire on.
7. I have a low budget. At most I earn about $70 a month right now. Nothing amazing. But, I can save up my money too of course, and possible look for some lawn mowing jobs for starting money.
But now, I have a few questions.
1. Am I in over my head? I don't think I am, but since I have no experience in online business, well.. how would i know? heh. Is this feasible for someone with my experience?
2. Business or Content site? Which would be better for me? A business site, or a site that makes money off advertising with lots of visitors? I am leaning towards an advertising site because then it's more one sided, And doesn't have to go at any certain speed. A business, you need to ship the orders WHEN they are ordered, and restock inventory.. etc.
3. Are there any other good opportunities for me? I've thought of investing in stocks, but I obviously don't have the money... So I have to leave that to just following my favorite stocks and Wishing I actually had put money on them
Well, that's about all I can think of for now.
Cant wait for your guys' help, thanks!

I think the first step to take is a business plan. I don't have the time to go into all the details right now -- I'm sure you can find enough info online about putting a business plan together. But this will help you to formulate your goals and organize the things you need to do to reach it.
Best wishes and good luck!!
Thanks, I've been looking into online guides and such for help on it. My main conern is what I would sell. I don't necessarily have expertise in many products, so I'm not completely sure how to go about doing it.
But thanks for the advice, Maybe I'll try to get a skeleton-plan going and build on it with info form articles heh.

If web design and graphics are something you like, you could do freelance design work. For example, here is just one place where jobs for graphics and designs are being posted...

Wow, that looks like a really good site, the only problem is I dont have the experience to win those competitions.. I'm looking more into a business or common interest site.
I've thought of maybe creating a writing community or something like that, (common interest), earning off of advertising. Still not sure though.

Well, I didn't mean a forum so much as a community. You know, like users would be able to post writings and articles, referenced in their own customized pages on the site, have ratings.. etc. More of an interactive type of thing.
But yeah, everything so far is only ideas, the problem is so many things have already been done on the internet! I'm sure I'll think of something though, just have to keep brainstorming

You may not have the experience now, but you can works towards that.
Create a website on a topic that interests you. Continuously add to it and refine it. And then do a little promotion of it. I've seen "hobby" websites that were well tended after several years be sold for thousands of dollars. Don't worry about making money right away, you will figure that out as you go along.

OKay, And I have an active hosting plan now, but it only lasts till june and I'd have to change my domain. I've considered just changing the domain now then in june renewing the hosting, but i dont know.. That also means my domain name expires at a diff. time than my hosting next year etc.. I think I'll just get my plans worked out and switch to a better host anyway.
I've also really thought of making an MMORPG fan site for a later to come MMO. Those can get really popular, depending on how they're advertised and how they're made. I know another site that got into this with an MMO, and were one of the earliest sites, didn't have any amazing css/html design or anything, But still has 53,000 forum members and 1.2mil posts. So as long as its a good place and they find it first, game-goers can be a very good returning visitor.
I guess the problem for me with a hobby site is that unless it's an obscure hobby, there will already be tons of other sites about it. And I do think it's a good idea, I'm just not sure if any of my hobbies are good for it.
So, right now Im leaning towards an MMORPG fansite, but it isn't set in stone yet. last night I brainstormed up alot of ideas so I have a ton to choose from right now. One thing I need to get rolling on though is learning some more in web development. I'm going to need to learn a little more about customizing phpbb (But meaning so I can make the forum smaller, such as having the forum covering most of the page, A banner + the normal phpbb links on top and A menu that would be static oln all of my pages at the left.
Does anyone have any suggestions or articles they could point me to about that?

Ibez,
my suggestion is to focus on building a list of people you can sell
to. Don't worry if you "don't know how" -- nobody did at first. It's
very good to read marketing books, but doing something
yourself is so much more valuable.
Sure you make mistakes, but at the end you'll have your list and
much experience. A good way to grow a list is to offer something
for free (resale rights packages) in return for someone to subscribe
to your newsletter.
Have you ever heard of: "Fake it till you make it"? Well, online you
can and you won't believe how many people that you now think
are Internet marketing gurus are in fact 20 years old guys&gals
online for 6 months. It's all in appearances online.
So, pick a topic that you LOVE and know a lot about it. Do some
keyword research to see if there's a market for it. Then get some
resale rights products. There's so many online that this shouldn't
be a problem -- make sure they are not more than 6 months old.
After you've done that create a web site offering those products
in exchange for a sign up to your newsletter (a crafty way is to
offer the newsletter as a bonus). There you have it. You can find
much more information in my free "How To Succeed Online report"
that you can get for free here:

Have a great day!

Just as an inspiration, there are guys on the
warriorforum (internet marketing) who are
between 15-17 and make a nice living online,
but they have to do it through their parents
debit cards and process the payments via
their paypal personal email attached to the credit card
so they can keep track of the expenses.
You should definitely start now because you'll
have a great knowledge by the time you're 18.
I was an entrepreneur all throughout high school
buying candy at wholesale and selling at retail, but
we didn't have the internet then.
I could only imagine if I got my hands on a richjerk
ebook at 14:)
Cheers,

May I share some of my personal experience? I start involving in online buisness 3 years ago. Acutally I'm not really involve but know about the existing of online business and read lots of miracle people make money from internet. So I decide to start my own online business and I know I'm going to be success in this.
But until today I still not success, why? this is because I think so much! Yup, I always think and research what kind of business i can start in internet that going to make me money. But the more I think, the more idea i have and the harder I can TAKE ACTION!
Finally I take some action last year, since then I really realize that I really waste a lot of time and miss out a lot of opportunities.
I don't know about you, but for me, thinking and planning too much will block me. So my suggestion is find your own passion, start a site, and just take action. Learn from every action and one day you can have your own idea and build your own internet empire!
GOOD LUCK!

How about this . . . |
|
|
You are in no way over your head! Bill Gates was 19 when he started Microsoft in his garage, so you not too young to start either.
With your writing skills, you might consider an Ebay Store selling information. Get a copy of Open Office (openoffice.org) for free and use it to produce PDF reports on any subject you are fluent in. It sounds like you have a lot of material already.
Then get an Ebook Cover Generator (I have one I can give you) to make nice covers for effect. Create your listings using the same techniques as writing headlines for an ad. There are plenty of free Ebooks to teach you how to do that.
Selling online is not that hard if you follow a few commonly known steps, but the only way to perfect it is to do it. Take Action, like the poster above said. And remember, on the Internet they don't know how old you are. You might even be a dog with a typing aid for all they know.
If you want to look into this, get on Ebay and do a search for information, ebooks, reports, pdf, e-book, you get the idea. Then read a few listings and even buy a few one-centers to get more ideas. That would also build your feedback for later when you want to sell. You would need your dad to set you up an account with Ebay and also PayPal, but they are both free.
One of the sweet things is all the payment and delivery on electronic data is automatic. They click buy, an instant pay screen comes up, they make payment through PayPal and get a screen with delivery information. You could be in another country and it all goes down like a machine.
If you're wondering about how much all this would cost, the first month is free and then it's $15 plus your listing fees. To list an item in a store inventory it's 2 cents a month!
Good luck young man,
