accusations? Well, that doesn't sound fun.
Without the unions the laborers were exploited. Many would say the pendulum swung too far in the other direction, leading to a lot of Union jokes.
Apparently, just the idea of the Union was enough to make a difference...

being from eastern kentucky(a city named after a coal company) I've seen how much a union can change how things are done, and I support them all the way, if you want to see a really good movie (based on a true story) about unions watch Harlan county wars it really show's how much a union has helped so many of the course of history.

Looks like just the attempts at unionizing Wal*Mart is improving how much it pays people.
They offered my sister $10 an hour to start. She took another job for $9 an hour since they would let her have Christmass and Thanksgiving off.
She is in a small town with a few employers before people start critizing her for taking such a low paying possition.
Have seen some retoric about Wal*Mart closing a store in Canada due to the workers wanting to go union.
I think the unions have made so many gains that many people are happy with their lot and don't see the need.
