The value of a money manager |
|
|
I am starting this thread to find out the general attitude towards todays money managers. With the advance of the Internet, availability of free tools for monitoring, and re-balancing portfolios, and transaction fees that can simply be ignored, what is the real value of Financial Advisers, Money Managers, or Wealth Consultants?
How much value do they provide and are the fees they charge justifiable? Please share you thoughts or experiences.

In general I agree with coaster.
I don't know if you can outperform all money managers but I am quite sure that an individual who puts in the time and effort will be able to outperfom 80% of money managers on the market.
Are the fees justified?
I think it depends on the return that your money manager will enable you to get and if the money manager is capable of executing the strategy which will meet your investment goals.
It is not smart to play it safe but it is safe to play it smart.

I am a financial adviser and I still think they're, for the most part, over rated. I think the vast majority of people shouldn't pay but should either educate themselves or, if they don't want to do that, consider target funds.
