Question about Home Owners Associations  Reply with quote

When you are looking at a house that you're considering for purchase, how can you VERIFY if the property is under the authority of a Home Owners Association?

I know the owner or agent selling the home would be able to answer this question, but if they say the property is not under a HOA then I'd like to know of a way that I can verify whether that is actually true or not.
(people sometimes tell you anything to make sales since money is some people's first priority in life above being truthful)

Are HOA required to register with the city, county, or state governments?
I was thinking that if they do, maybe there's a way of verification through a government agency.

The reason I want to know if because I'm not going to be buying any property under a HOA since they have the right to take your property without even going to court here in Texas where I live.

If I have a disagreement with a HOA, I don't want them to take my home away from me. I've been hearing actual known cases of this on some of the home improvement radio shows in the DFW area.

I don't want to buy a home and then find out later it is under a HOA
