When a business offers you to be an affiliate does that make it a Pyramid Scheme?

Not necessarily.
For example, AllPosters.com offers you a chance to become an affiliate and market posters on their behalf. You work to sell posters, they pay you a cut of any profit. They also will pay you a small commision on each new affiliate you send their way. This is not a pyramid because the whole focus is really on selling the posters, because that is where the real money is.
But if the focus is really on getting more people to buy-in into the scheme, and there is no product, or an overpriced token product, like a bunch of e-books, then it's just a pyramid scheme.

well put andrew... Affiliates is what makes the website go round the key is you being able to make money without other people HAVING signing up... meaning there is a direct product.

I see anything as a pyramid scheme if you refer people and they have to pay money to sign up. If you don't pay, I don't see it as a pyramid scheme (but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be really stupid, like Netbux).
