You can always talk to people about it. If it's worth anyone's time, word of mouth can be a good tool. Putting up posters and flyers is a good idea also.

The most obvious way is to make your site come up in the search engines on terms that are relevant to your site.

Oh man, don't even get me started. There are several ways to get free advertising. One in particular beats anything else hands down 1000 times over.
I won't just tell you what it is as it's a well kept secret and I paid handsomly to learn it - money and time. But I will discuss it soon on my blog and give some great ideas to my newsletter subscribers.

yea, its called word of mouth! Its the best advertising on the planet. Word of Mouth combined with PR are the two strongest marketing initiatives available and free

Is that the Traffic Equalizer you're talking about? I've heard that G penalize you severely and that's it's very shady. And frankly, is it producing quality content? Is it what we want on the web?
