Just Received $2500 in the Mail...WTF?! COOL  Reply with quote

Title is a bit dramatic, but it got you to read it, right. It's true however, I just received a check for $2,500.00 from Qchex(.com), it's actually from SpaceAge Control, Inc. It has my name, address, everything. I don't know WHY I received this, is it safe to cash? Dumb question probably, but it's very professional looking, it's not a normal check, it's more like a monthly check from your work, and I have NO idea why I would be getting this. I don't even know who they are, never heard of them, is this unusual or are fraudulent checks common in the mail? Anybody ever received something like this?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Hi Josiah

I have received one or two of those in past few years. Usually though it is clear on them that cannot be cashed.

What exactly does the attached letter say to you?

Unless anybody here has had the same arrive in their mail you should probably contact the company.

Confused

Cheers,

Niall

Exclamation

They will either have a laugh with you or cash it. Neither is a bad end to the day.

Be careful! This may be a scam where that check is for a loan at some crazy interest rate. Once you cash the check you may be under their agreement.

Of course, if they didn't send you any information/terms of the agreement I think they'll have a tough time, but do you really want to go to court for $2500?

Have you called the company?

Let us know how this all plays out!

I am awaiting the company's reply, if they have no idea what it is, I'm going to cash it. I just hope it doesn't bounce :X Is that possible? I really don't see why I have a check like this, it's a neat feeling though. I'm actually going to do something good with it, believe it or not. I hope I get to cash it.

lol, completely unexpected on an investment forum. Is there ANY risk of me cashing this? That is my only question, it will be going through my mom's checking account and if it bounces I'm fucked.

You would have only been held liable for the amount that the check was for, which is what you would be held liable for in any case just if your credit card company accidentally credited you 1000 they would expect to get that 1000 back. you would not be liable for any charges that company would ahve faced due to them not having enough fees.

I've heard when a check bounces it is bad for your credit, it flags your account (my mom mentioned this, she's a records clerk in the local police dept.), but that doesn't mean she is right. Anyone want to clarify this? If there is NO risk in doing this as long as they get the money back, I'm going to do it. Thanks.

You credit rating will only be affected if it a cheque you wrote bounces. If your wage check bounces is your credit rating affected? Question No its your employer who will be in trouble.

If the cheque is legit then you can use the money after your bank clear it. Takes a week normally. However you say that the company have told you its a fraud already. Idea Then throw it out.

If you go ahead and present it in the bank then the company will bounce the cheque as they have told you its Fraud.

Anyway dont waste your time on this iffy cheque. Youve got to sort out how to invest your inheritence dont you Very Happy (different thread)

Cheers,

Niall
