Getting started.  Reply with quote

Hello everyone, Im new here. well ill tell you a little about my self. im still in high school, i have a job and currently making 9.00$/hour. I really want my money making the most for me instead of pissing it off on useless things most kids spend on these days. well anyway, can anyone recomend me any good links, books, and sites to help this starting teenager out.

Thank you.

Well, this is a good site to start with. Books that inspired me were the Rich Dad line of books, you may want to take a look at those. You may want to build a little bit of a savings in a bank before you try anything too risky.

I agree with paying for things with cash. The magic of compounding can also turn into the horror of compounding when you talk about a loan.

Two books I would recommend are Bogle On Mutual Funds written by John Bogle and Debt Proof Living by Mary Hunt.

Bogle will give you sound investing advice and Hunt will show you how to stay out of debt and have money left to invest.

For a very good introduction to index fund investing, read some of Jonathan Clements books (he writes the excellent "getting going" column in the WSJ).

I also really like David Benjamin's "LifeLong Investing" series - <deleted>. He takes a clear step-by-step approach to show you how to build a solid sustainable portfolio using index funds.
