Career change? Financial advisor How to start?  Reply with quote

Hello,

I am new here. Just found this site and was wondering if anyone can help me in a possible career change. I recently met with an advisor and began discussing my retirement plans. During all of this, I began to think..........This must be a great job, making money by helping people make money. Sure that sounds so simple right? I'll quit my job tomorrow and apply at Merrill Lynch. Truth is my job seems to drain the life out of me more and more. I have talked with people about career changes and always came to the conclusion that...no...that's no better than my job now. For some reason though financial advising seems so attractive.

O.K. and now to the question: What type of education is involved and time frame, expense?

Are there any book recommendations that anyone can make to get me started. Mainly just to see if it is right for me.

Thank you for your input!

I'll suggest "So You Want To Be A Financial Planner" by Nancy Jones. It's available (I believe) as a download.

Best of luck!

I first wanna help you to make sure that you have got the right financial advisors.

Here are some questions which might help you out:

Interview Questions For Advisors:

How long have you been in this business?

What are your credentials?

Have you ever written and brochures, websites, articles or books?

How Busy is your business?

How many clients do you serve on a daily basis?

If in theory we were to work together, how much time can you devote to my team?

Can you promptly be reached at any time of the day or night in the case your assistance is needed?

What are some big scale projects you have worked on?

Have you failed at any of those projects?

What are the big successes in your life that you are proud of?

Do you have network of other professionals, consultants, lenders, mortgage brokers etc that you either work with currently or have worked with on projects in the past??

Can you make useful referrals when necessary?

Do you like to work with other professionals, and consultants on a team??

And finally what does the word Integrity mean to you??

If you are looking for a retirement plan, then may be we can help you out too, but it will be more effective to talk on phone. 888-281-1890
