Just started a Web Page, need advice .. |

Hey Everyone, I've been reading these forums for a month or two and have finally decided to start posting. After reading suggestions on how to make money on the web, I've decided to create a blog and place ads on it. I chose a blog to start out with because it is free and I am still very new to this and am experimenting with a lot of different methods.
I created an account with AdSense on Google. I noticed after my first few posts on my blog my ads were still unrelated to my webpage content. I posted a NFL power poll and that night noticed my ads were all about sports. I had ads for equipment, jerseys, memorabilia, and so on. I was thrilled to see ads that were relevant to my subjects.
However, when I posted this morning, my ads went back to unrelated links. My question is, how can I keep my ads related to sports webpages? Is there a special setting or coding?
I added an invisible web counter and have 6 hits so far, which I figure isn't bad in 2 days for a blog I haven't advertised. I checked my google account, and have no ad clicks.
Any auggestions about changing my ads to sport related links?
Any suggestions about my webpage? How I can spice it up to attract more readers? Add pictures? Add more humor? Add more content?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Consider that although the AdSense robot will read new pages usually right away, page updates may take longer, so that can affect targeting for new content on an existing page. Another factor is that it can detect multiple themes for your pages and it may rotate these themes to determine which perform better with your visitors that click.
There actually does happen to be a secret coding for the Javascript, but it is only authorized for use by some beta-testing users. Don't know if or when that will become available for all publishers.
Try to exchange links with some other ontopic blogs or forums, could help build your traffic...

Hi, I found a similar problem once. But if you do a proper onpage optimization, it will start posting the relevant ads.
Right now I'm in a process of building a new web site. I have a similar problem here:
http://mesothelioma-resources.ws/wst_page3.html
The ads are not very related, are they? Well in this case the problem might be that the ones that put up those ads might have used the keywords relevant to my site. You can filter out those ads in your Adsense account settings. It's called a competitive ads filter. You can put up to 200 URLs in and you won't see their ads.
The Godaddy ad is probably because of the image at the bottom of the page, but it will go away over time as no one will ever click on it. Probably. And also because I will add more content to the site and the Adsense robot will put up more relevant ads.
My suggestion - make your posts more keyword rich - about 3% of words should be your preferred keyword. But no more as it can dammage your rankings. Also visit my blog: insidemarketing.blogspot.com to get much more info on how to make your blog (or ordinary site) prosper
Have a great day.

thanks for the replies.
Moneymaker, I did read your blog yesterday as I was working on my page. I loved your tips. When you say you use more keywords in your post, do you suggest I write things like "NFL, MLB, football, baseball, sports" words like that more often? but just not over 3% of my total words

I'm not a big SEO expert, but do things like: writing articles that are about 250-300 words, put a keyword in your <title> tag, then re-use that keyword again in the first paragraph of text, once again in the body and again in the last paragraph.
