Is the child tax credit a new law? I don't remembering getting a child tax credit. I did get a refund of more than a thousand last year for 2013. This year, I was pleasantly surprised to get a higher refund because of child tax credit.

Child tax credit is not new, is been working for a few years.
If the amount of your Child Tax Credit is greater than the amount of income tax you owe, you may be able to claim the Additional Child Tax Credit.

Here is a list of my favorite tax sites:
For filing taxes yourself I use the IRS website https://irs.gov It has free file online, and where it my refund?
For keeping track of my finances, which then makes filing easier I like personal finance, or https://mint.com
Then I like using https://www.hrblock.com/ tax software
Finally, I have had to get my tax refund back early and used https://taxrefundloans.org with success in getting a tax refund advance.
