| How to burn CD with ISO file? |
|
|
I finally found a freeware program to burn a boot CD so I can resize my partition. But it comes as an ISO (CD image) file. And Windows doesn't recognize an .iso file needs to be burned on a CD, and it's not associated with any app installed. Do I need a third-party app to burn a CD with as .iso file? Seems kind of strange -- Windows builds an image when copying data files to a CD, and Windows Media Player also builds an image when burning an audio CD. So the capability must be built into Windows. But WMP doesn't know what to do with it, and Windows help is mute about it. Any suggestions from fellow members? Thanks.....

Yes you will need to burn it to a CD... do you have any kind of CD buring software (other then Windows Media).... like Nero? If so select the 'Burn an Image' selection and burn it to a CD. Take the CD out and put it back it, assuming it has an autorun file it will start automaticly.
*EDIT*... oops... so the CD has your CD burning sofware on it hmmm.... If you had one of those USB memory sticks you could put the ISO file on there and take it over to a friends house so he could copy it.
Beyond that... sorry, i guess my post is kind of poinless

I've used Windows Media Player and Music Match Jukebox to burn audio CDs -- that's all I've got installed on my computer. So I take it I need an app that has a "Burn an Image" function, correct? One thing leads to another.

That is correct.
I did the same thing, I needed something to burn inmages with so I downloaded Nero burning software but it was an ISO...
Thats why i recommended taking it over to a friends house that has the burning software. It shouldnt take that long to burn.

After I read your first reply I remembered that I had Nero installed at one time. I don't remember why I uninstalled it -- something didn't work right, or there was a conflict with something else, and anyway, WMP worked well for audio CDs. But now if I still have the setup CD, I can reinstall it long enough to burn the ISO file.
Thanks for your help!!

Nero or Roxio will use those image files natively. I'm sure there are other burner programs you could download that would as well, possibly even work fully in shareware mode.

Finally got around to finding my Nero installation CD and now I remember why I uninstalled it: it was freebie software bundled with a CDRW drive that I removed and replaced, and it didn't work with the new drive. So........back to square #1.
At least I know what I need to do....it's a question of whether I ever do it. Actually, even with only half the drive accessible, that half is less than 50% filled. I doubt I'll ever need the rest of the drive before I replace this computer.

Nope. 15 seconds w/Gooooogle.
WinISO is a neat utility to have as well; I do use that one.

Strange how you found that so fast when I couldn't. Ahhhhhh.....the keyword is everything. I bow to you, Master of the Search Keyword!!
I see WinISO has a free trial. If the burn feature is enabled, that's all I need. Just one use. I hope.

I just use WinISO to 'explore' ISO images/extract them.

I'm just going to format & reinstall. I've read some of these free trial downloads are contaminated with trojans. If I burn a boot disk, I need to trust whatever I'm using, or I could end up with anything on my computer. Some nasty rootkit, for example.

Nero. Use nero 6. Don't use that virus-ridden free garbage.
In fact, don't install ANY free software unless you know and trust the source.
Buy Nero 6, it's worth your money. Use it - it works really well.
