If you want to sell ad space of your website through services like Text-Link-Ads, you need a better Alexa Ranking and Google PR. There are many online shoppers who are still very skeptical of where they are going to shop on the internet. So they usually follow the others and use ratings like Alexa, Google pagerank or other traffic rankers to perceive the value of your site.

Yeah Alexa doesn't really give the whole picture as far as the traffic to your site is concerned and the ranking is a little bit overrated.
If you want really statistics just check your server log.
I heard Google analytic isn't really accurate either because if you don't have JavaScript enabled on your computer analytics isn't even going to show up. I heard 25% of people have JavaScript not enabled on their computers.

Basically an Alexa ranking is not important. Having a high or low Alexa ranking does not help a site one bit, unless you want to use it to impress people who are impressed by this sort of thing, but do not understand it.

I use it to decide if an ad site is worth using among other things. A low Alexa number means they have good traffic counts. You can use Alexa data to see what countries visitors come from and much more. They used to provide more data free than they do now.
