GED/High school diploma  Reply with quote

Hey guys I need some help, I am going to be junior in high school, starting tomorrow, and while school is pretty easy for me, and I shouldnt have any trouble graduating, I have started tot hink that maybe I should jjust go ahead and get my GED. and start my career now rather than two years from now. I don't plan on college, I wish to start my own business, starting with a website(posted in website already), and moving to real estate. I know a lot about what I plan on doing with my life career wise, I have been studying investing, real estate and stocks/bonds for a few years, and while I still have much to learn, high school will not help me in these areas. So do you think I should go ahead and get my GED, start a job, maybe two, and start saving up money so I can get into the real estate game, while pursuing my website/small business. The main difference between getting my GED/or Diploma would be---

A.Only thing I like about high school, is the social aspect, I get to see my friends very often.
B. If I get a GED, I wont get to see my friends as often.
C. Since I plan on being my own employer, aside from part-time jobs to get starting money, I dont see that a GED is worth any less than Diploma in that job area-I will not be attempting to get a job as a rocket scientist, just movie store clerk type jobs, maybe a delivery man.

So what do you all think?

I persoanlly went for G.E.D and when filling out apps 90% of the time they list High School Diploma and G.E.D as the same thing, and if they don't you are still supposed to fill info in the high school section, so if you just plan on part time jobs and the such, it won't make a differance 90% of the time.

One thing to consider is, that in most states you can't get your G.E.D til after your orginal graduation date. So you may wanan look into that, as for the G.E.D testing itself, that was very easy, they asked me to go to the lessons to "prepare" myself. I went there half-drunk and passed w/out a single book opened to "prepare".

I accidentally voted for GED, but I definitely believe finishing high school would be the smart way to go.

What? Shut up and go to school!

Don't you hate that answer? LOL S'true though. HS will teach you patience. And the basics. Those two cannot be underestimated.

If you ever need to get a job: a high school diploma is unimpressive. The LACK of a high school diploma kills your chances. GED means damaged good. So go to school and get that degree. It's the one thing nobody can ever take away.

You can work your side projects at night if you are driven. If you aren't driven, then all your planning so far is crap. I started a healthcare tech company in my spare time while I was working a 50 hr week in a large corporation and I'm a dad with 2 kids. Don't ask me where the time comes from, you MAKE the time if you want things done.

So, you CAN pursue your dream while you're in school. If you give even ONE measly excuse why you can't, then POOF, there goes your drive. It means you didn't really want it in the first place. Listen: your success relies upon your ability to MAKE shit happen and NOT give excuses.

STOP looking for shortcuts. There ARE no shortcuts. There's ZOMBIES in the shortcuts. The older you get, you'll actually MEET a few of these poor slobs and they'll make your skin crawl.

There are no shortcuts, there is only YOU and WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.

Focus on solutions, yes, but don't fix what ain't broke (your career).

Nobody takes you seriously until you're 40 anyway, so TAKE YOUR TIME. Rush through your youth, and you will pine for it in your age.

I would NEVER have listened to any of this when I was in tenth grade! Above all, good luck!

Finish school, then go to college and get a good 4 year education. This is the 21st century, not 1960... a high school diploma is worthless!

It is definitely true that a simple HS education won't get you anywhere nowadays. It's all about college.
