| Help me find a new bank. |

Bank of America is driving me crazy and they leave me no choice but to change banks!
I am currently on vacation (internationally) and everytime I take money out of the ATM here I get charged about $2 at the ATM, then Bank of America charges me $5, gives me a ridiculously bad exchange rate, and then they have the nerve to charge me a currency conversion fee! I have had it with Bank of America they must have charged me over $100 in nonsensical fees!
On top of that I have a handful of overdraft complaints similar to other posts I have read on this forum. Some of them are due to errors on the BoA side or resulting in checks that take 3 or 4 business days to post. They keep charging me more and more and it is getting ridiculous.
I live in San Francisco and it disgusts me that the people who bought the company away from it's local owners have turned it into such a scam. I am looking for a bank that has free checking (without direct deposit, ever since I lost the job I had when I signed up I have been paying $8/month), many ATM's in the US, and flexible or no fees for travelers. I am also interested in a bank that pays more than 0 interest on savings. I don't have much socked away, but I see no reason why I shouldn't be making money on my couple grand while the bank is making ridiculously higher interest lending my money.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Bank of America must end the nickle-and-diming!

I had my own personal struggle with Fleet Bank until I decided to do all my banking online. Online banks give a much better interest rate than brick-and-mortar banks. And you never have to worry about paying ATM fees because my checking account bank REFUNDS those up to $5 per month. Right now I am getting 2.25% on my checking account and 3.40% on my savings.
I never have the need to go into a real bank. You just mail your checks in. It's great. They are both FDIC insured, so they are as safe as BofA or any other bank.
I've only done limited overseas travel so I'm not sure how they well they handle that.
For details on the checking account, send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward you the info. For referring you I get $20 and you get $10 so it helps both of us. For the savings account, click the link at the bottom of my signature.
