I have had 2 sites in the past 10 years and have not made a penny. I used addme.com for promotion and got up to 2000 hits per day for a period of two months. In the two months i still made no money.
If anyone has any good afflicate programmes to offer would be much help!
I found a method setup by an english team where i have made £50 since i started! This is the best profit making method i have seen on the net so far where you use your email and site to make small but regular amounts of money...

I would start by buying your own domain and getting real hosting. Nobody will take you seriously if your using Geocities.

Submit it to the main directories, like DMOZ, exchange links with similiar sites... This is accually what I am doing now, though with average success: a week ago googlebot have visited my site, but I am still not listed in google. But MSN robot found my site quickly and is visiting it constantly

I agree with Matt. DMOZ takes forever, and blah blah blah...
Submit to MSN, Yahoo and Google manually, but first get yourself a real domain name. Content is king, so you'll need meat on your site as well.

Definitely, I haven't bought anything off a free site in years - for a purely info site you can get away with it for a while.
With paid hosting and a domain name so cheap these days it's unlikely that most people would want to completely trust a free site. My biggest annoyance is shops that aren't secure, who's going to enter their card details into there?!?!?!

I agree as others stated get a real domain name and hosting it will help.
Second don't even add you site to google, yahoo, etc... Instead work on link exchanges you will get in the system quicker that way the manual add is a waste of time get link exchanges going.
Secondly you can Profit BIG time off of websites. This past month JULY i cleared with a PROFIT of over $2,500. I have been piddling with websites for years now but didn't do it as a business venture untill 8 months ago. It was a slow process but once things get rolling they get rolling don't get discourage if within first two or three month you are barely making enough to cover hosting costs... A good site with good links and some promotion will go a long way just give it time.

Xbox has good insight, and I know he's been successful, as we've chatted many times. For those who are unwilling to buy domain names, WHY?????????
You can get a domain name at GoDaddy for $7.95, and hosting only costs $3.95 a month. That is nothing, and makes you look legit. You can have email addresses to, at no extra cost.
Is working for me as well...
