Before I pay off bad credit....  Reply with quote

When I was in college I owed Verizen $287 which they reported to the credit bureau (2002). Now I guess it has been sold to Pinnacle (collection agency) and Pinnacle again reported it to my credit (2005), but they reported $354?!?! Can the same thing be reported twice? if so why is it higher the second time around? I found this out while I was trying to repay some unpaid debts.

What do you guys suggest I should do? Should I just pay Pinnacle and ask if they can delete the report?

Thanks

Yes, they can report it again. It's a different company and you now owe them the money.

The higher amount is likely due to late fees and/or interest.

The collection agency bought your debt for pennies on the dollar. Contact them and see if you can work out a settelment but insist on removing the charge off on your credit report before you make payment arrangements.
