I've been using Zimbra recently and have been encountering syncing issues as well. Oh, and their privacy policy is also questionable. Thunderbird is probably the most stable email client I have ever used. In the early days, Outlook was adopting (stealing?) features that it introduced. Admittedly Mozilla sees it as a mature product and is not actively pushing further development but they are keeping it current and secure. I like to offer Thunderbird to Outlook users that no longer feel the need to buy Office but want Outlook familiarity.
