Definitely nix the long-distance carrier; there are taxes and fees that go along with merely having one. You can:
-Use a calling card instead, CC's from your home phone have excellent rates
-Use your cell phone instead
-Vonage.com: a fully-loaded phone is standard, ~$18/mo. including taxes and fees. If you sign up, PM me before you do, I get two months free.
See if getting a monitored home security system & smoke detector reduces your homeowner's rates. The savings to my premium were greater than the cost for the system + monthly fees. Lower escrow, better security. Also, order your system online and install it yourself or pay a contractor to do it to not get locked into a contract or pay 100% markup.
Change your own oil, it is not hard, and you know it is done properly.
Lottery: a tax on people who are bad at math.

1.) Shop around when buying an automobile, I bought a 93 S-10 with 170,000 miles last year, burns oil for 2 seconds every morning when I crank it that's it, besides that it has working a/c automatic, V-6, hauls my ATV, doesn't leak a thing and cost me $1500. I would only go to a dealership for a Brand New or Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle, if you buy a car with a 3 month 3000 mile warranty you just got screwed in my opinion cause they jack up the price anyway and it's not good enough to be certified. Private Sellers are easy to get to budge, especially if they're in a rush to get rid of the vehicle, wave some cash around in their face and they will drop the price.
2.) Don't be lazy, fix things yourself, learn how to be handy. Leaky sink, buy a wrench. Vehicle's Brakes making an awful noise, go buy some tools a manual and some brake pads. The internet is full of wonderful forums just like this and there is one on everything. All it takes is a little time and effort, and once you've done something once it's a whole lot easier every time after that...
3.) Cut your own grass!!! A brand new lawn mower with bag costs $140 at walmart or home depot, the average cost for paying someone $30-$50. Do the math, Summer can be a long season...
About the Pizza, when I was in my first 2 years of college I lived off Totino's Pizza $.83 at Walmart...
Great Idea about long distance, my grandparents bought a cell phone for that very reason.
Sams and Costco are great when you have a family, but when you are single, it would take me 4 years to go through a box of cereal... so Walmart it is.

Don't buy bottled water. Get a jug or container and refill it from the tap. And it'll hold ice and be cold for a long period of time. Take your water bill and see how much they charge you per gallon. Now take a bottle of water and see how much they charge you per gallon (you may have to convert some measuring units). I think I figured one time that a bottle of water from a convenience store was around 500 times more expensive than the same amount from my faucet at home. ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!!!!!
I do understand when the water in a certain area is very poor though. For example, the water in Midland, TX is absolutely horrible. It would take me a while to get used to the tap water. When I visit family there, I don't even like to brush my teeth with that hogwash.

Yeah, Houston water may be safe to drink, but it sure doesn't taste too good.
We get our bottled water for 35 cents by using our own bottle at one of those water kiosks.

Much better than paying $1.39 at a convenience store for 1 liter of Ozarka.
