Can't find a decent job  Reply with quote

Hi. I just graduated with a 4 year degree in psychology. The only jobs I can seem to find are 8 dollars an hour or less. I don't know what to do. I tried job agencies, job finding websites, and newspapers but I can't seem to find a job. I think with my degree I should be able to do better. What should I do?

It's still a very tough economy. Have you been looking for jobs out of state too?

I hate to give you bad news, but I've always heard that with a psychology degree, you really need a PhD to get a good income. The lower levels don't qualify you to do really high paying jobs because of the liability. I would look into career or social work for a better chance at more income.

I would recommend trying to open your mind to new possibilities and look elsewhere. I am originally from NY for 30 years and moved to Florida. If you open your mind to some new places then you can find a job anywhere with new opportunities to meet new people. Good luck!

Sorry but psychology is not a sought after profession these days, you need to get you PhD to do anything with it.

ts not just females over a peticular age, its everyone. Im not yalls age and Im male. Most of the offers that I get are low-wage or commission only. Im not a realator or a car salesman. In my opinion those should be the only sales jobs with a commission only structure. Some egg-head in some companys HR dept back in the late 90s thought Comm. only was a real good idea. I wish I could meet him.The good news is sales is one of the few posions that cant be out-sourced. The same egg-head tried it a few years ago and gave call-center jobs over to the good folks in India. In the past few monthes, the companies that did that realized that the American consumer does not react well to that peticular method of cost cutting genius. Comm. only companies do not care about the salesman and, moreover ,do not care about the customer. Its an insult to everyone involved.

Gilbertholdings is right, if you want to get a good paying job in that profession you have to get a Phd. Most employers these days, entertain only those applicants with higher degree and good experience on the job.

Don't get a PhD in psychology it's just as bad as bachelors degrees. You want to to school and get a business degree or nursing or something useful. Or look for a big company that is hiring at a job fair.

I have been confused what to say you. But I must say a thing that you should take a profession which you love to do but not for money. Mind satisfaction is very important.

I had the same dilemma during the 1973-1975 recession, so I just created my own job as a consultant and never looked back. Sure you need to scratch at first, but the upside potential is unlimited. In my case, personal computers were a new thing that I could learn and anyone that could fog a mirror could become a dealer, so I sold computers into a niche market I developed for 30 years until I retired. If I were faced with the same circumstance today, I would jump into the Mobile Device Marketplace in some way. It's exploding and the barriers to entry are on the ground.
