I max out my 401K at $17K. What other tax deferred investments are out there for retirement? I earn $145K a year and single.

You can make an after tax contribution to an IRA.

The contribution is after taxes, but the growth will be tax deferred.

After the contribution to your IRA, and there is no After Tax contributions in your IRA, immediately do a Conversion to a ROTH IRA. After 5 years and age 59 1/2, distributions from the ROTH IRA will be tax free. There is no RMD from the ROTH IRA.
