Hi Guys,
So I have two job offers on the table and need to make a decision.
First some background on me, 23 years old 1 year sales experience at start up being top performer. I accepted Offer A two weeks ago and put my two weeks in at my company. In that time, I received Offer B and would have to renege on Offer A.
Offer A:
start up farther along then previous
good product in new/hot industry
smaller company of 50-100 employees
room to grow into higher position, but not sure where the company is headed
50k base, 10k variable
Offer B:
large established company
leader in market
lots of resources and scaling capabilities
lots of room for growth
500-1000 employees/great benefits
42.5k base, 10k variable but uncapped
what should i do? i really liked the teams at both companies but what is most important to me is to stay with this next company for the long run..at least 3 years and move up..the only thing about Offer A is that i dont know their future..while Offer B will be around for a long time and I can move up/good name on resume.
the pay for Offer B is lower, however i think i can negotiate a little bit and commissions are uncapped.
please let me know what you think.
if i take offer B i will have to renege offer A the day before i start, which would not be ideal but my future is what is most important and i am willing to do whatever is necessary to be successful

I always say that opportunities will be best when one works for a smaller company, as long as the company is a stable one. The reason is, when one accumulates enough funds and experience, he would then be able to put up his own company, and start his own business. Unlike if one works for a multi-national company, it would almost be impossible for him to put up a company similar to his experience. After all, having one's

i definitely agree with what you are saying globaldoc but i do not know for a fact, that the company is stable

Working for a large company also has it's advantages if you would want to start something similar on your own. You will have a lot more contacts in the industry, and it will be easier for you to partner up with someone then in a smaller company, as you have way more options. However I wouldn't take the job based on that alone. You need to factor in what the most important thing for you right now is. Is it the extra few dollars you will be earning in offer A, or is it the security of a established company like offer b.

Straightforward photography has never been interesting to me. Even back when I was in school, earning my degree in photography, I was always the student who was different. I tried to turn my assignments into something that would challenge me, rather than just meeting the requirements of the class.
For about ten years I shot B&W film almost exclusively. B&W is wonderful for photography of people. It’s moody, subjective, interesting…
