Economic recovery is obviously something that takes time. The results of the 2012 election will play a big role.

I agree it takes time, but I don't think the 2012 election will have a tremendously huge effect. The government can certainly monitor and regulate economic activity, but ultimately it comes down to the health of financial institutions, investments, and the consumer's ability and willingness to spend.

The US economy is a consumer driven economy.

I see a positive outcome. I may say that my idea goes for the US recovering very soon. However, my anticipation is that recovery will come during the term of the next president after the elections. Of course, mine is just speculation.

I see a positive outcome too and I also try to remain optimistic. It appears we avoided a second recession and the markets have been moving back up again. But creating jobs and getting unemployed people back to work is going to take a good number of years I'm afraid.

Very true. It will take healing. I just see a lot of people who blame the government even for their own doings. What I mean is, if we are going to listen to the cries, woes and complaints of every people, then, there is no end to it. I think for many people, there are also misdeeds that were committed, and it is going to take years to solve this problem.

Strange but everywhere I see, there are pending threats to the US economy. The peace and order, and the financial slump. Yet, I see that the American habit in which they practice their lives specially during the holiday season, this is going to release out some of the pressure during the holidays. However, I see that the US will recover after President Obama's term, though mine is just a speculation.

I think the recovery has already begun, but it's moving at a snail's pace. It will take years to get so many unemployed back to work. Since we are a consumer driven economy, consumers need to have jobs to be able to spend.

NO ECONOMIC RECOVERY IN NEXT FIVE YEARS  Reply with quote

Sorry,

But I do not see any signs of any recovery when we have a $15T U.S. debt and a disfuntional government like this, and the economy is so bad that it makes no difference who is elected next time around, the troubles are just too deep to ever recover from.

Sure, it is nice to be optimistic, but sorry, the kick the can down the road government has killed the U.S. economy and we will never see unemployment numbers anywhere near where they once were in the good times at 4% to 5% range.

The reasons are many, but as with most, they are clueless of what is going on behind the scenes. If they did, they would be protesting in front of the White House, not Wall Street. Just check out the recent audit of the Federal Reserve which has so far been totally ignored by mainstream media outlets. We all have heard of TARP, and the supposed $800B bailout of banks, yet this was all a lie, just visit the site of Senator Bernie Sanders at http://sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=9e2a4ea8-6e73-4be2-a753-62060dcbb3c3 and you will choke to learn the nailout was $16T, that is trillion, not billion.

We cannot even pay interest on the current $15T debt, so when the reality of seeing another $16T was printed in funny money and doled out to international banks, not just U.S. based banks, sooner or later people will wake up to the fact we are doomed as a economic world power, so get use to it, we have all been lied to for decades. It is no wonder the audit of the federal reserves gold valut in NYC is being blocked, why, because there is no gold there or in Fort Knox, we have all been scammed. So for those who think we will ever see this recession, or depression if you use real statistics of 20% plus unemployment, and no hope of improvements unless U.S. files bankruptcy again, yes, again, how many knew about the first bankruptcy?

Success to all,

I hear Christmas bells all around. I feel the chills, and the gush of the wind. The holidays are near. The economy would go up a bit. I think this will be healthy enough. I just fear what is going to happen next year after the holidays. I really hope that the holidays would somehow provide some positive cures for next year's financial illnesses.

You would probably have to have been living on a remote desert island for the better part of two years to not see any signs of the slowdown in the economy of the United States.

We still have the war, though most of the citizens aren't paying any attention.

Government spending is inferior as an economic stimulus because it's sucking money OUT of the economy as taxes at the same time it's putting money back IN as wages and profits. There's a whole lot of money being thrown at infrastructure right now and look how much good it's doing.

The whole thing is a heck of a lot more complex than can be explained by either of our viewpoints, and therefore in my opinion isn't going to be fixed by policy or stimulus or any other government action. It's something that's going to have to work itself out through the interplay of all those poorly-understood economic, demographic, and societal processes. Attempts to fix it when it's not understood will just prolong it.

BTW, see Keith Springer's new thread: http://www.money-talk.org/thread19051.html which mentions the Japan parallel.

Saw more then a few roads getting fixed that didn't need it. And they had stim funding signage on them. Those are just temp jobs. But if I had one I wouldn't complain about it. Gave some people time to find something else. A few months ago it seemed like there were employers employing but it looks like we are going backwards again. Yet guess some of the auto companies are adding third shifts.

There were various articles about why we are not like Japan. But that may have just been propaganda. But with the downturn many people up their prayers. When I was a kid I was told America was blessed because we were a country under God. If it turns around lets not say it was because of stimulus.
