Search out people from your niche, and start to engage with them. If you have a FB for your business post some relevant info that your customers would appreciate. Get feedback on what your customers would like. Also you can start a promotion that will only work for your Twitter or FB fans.

thanks both of u but can u suggest hw we can effectively do the work being within the rules....in FB they will block our requests if we send friend requests...but while using FB we must increase our friends list....so what should we do?hw can we remove this limitation of FB

Inspirational quotes are good fillers. But don't do it a lot or people might ask if you are just posting quotes because you have nothing important to give them. Do some research regarding your niche and make it in your own words before you post status updates.

I have seen the other social sites other than facebook. One thing that I can say is that advertisements will not really work so effectively with some people simply because they are hardselling. Posting pictures and tagging people without notification is never an open idea since it is without permission, and many people will not like it. I still believe in placing links.
