How secure is paypal ?  Reply with quote

Hi
I have decided to transfer my bank account fund to paypal and start working with paypal due to the needs of online shopping and selling. The problem is that yesterday I heard from a seller that if you sell a good(like in AMAZON or EBAY),even if you deliver the good and the costumer rereceives that,it's possible that the buyer declares that s/he has not received the good and PAYPAL will give back the money which has been paid to you to buyer and you might even have and gain negative fund in your account (although you have delievered the goods)!!!.So my question is,Are there any precautious actions by which we gain accurance that when the seller has recieved the goods and we have got the money which is legally paid to us,we prove this argument and indication ?And if the buyer indicates falsly and maliciously that s/he has not recieved the good, what can we do to belie his/her indications ?(Specially for amounts amount 250 bucks)

Thank you very much
Hope you have a nice day

This isn't just Paypal; it's standard practice. If you're a merchant, and your customer disputes a sale, the customer gets the money back. At least until the dispute is settled.

Thanks a lot  Reply with quote

Hi
thanks a lot for your answer. There is no problem if he disputes the agreement. The problem is when he recieves the good and falsly declares that s/he hasn't.How could I prove that s/he has recieved it ?What is the most secure way ? That the customers don't steel your cash ?Imagine that I have sold a 10,000 $ good,if the customer falsly and on intentionally indicates that s/he hasn't recieved it (while s/he has),I will lose 10,000 $!!!?

Shipping Notification  Reply with quote

Make sure to get some sort of proof from the postal service or UPS that you shipped and ask for delivery confirmation where in which your customer will sign your form and who ever delivers will indicate who signed it. I have used this method to send Quilts of Valor through the mail. I get an email that says something like Female answered door. Signed for Debra. Paypal actually tries hard not to intervene unless you're uncooperative as a seller. When you dispute a transaction it will send you to a form that is monitored by Paypal....if you keep the conversation going in an attempt to rectify the situation and you can prove your good was shipped (back it up with paperwork ) you're unlikely to have any real trouble.

Many hand pieced hand quilted, literally priceless quilts sent this way. Keep receipts and if it's really worth 10,000 get it appraised and get some form of postal insurance on it. That way if it's lost in transit you've gotten the determined value out of it.

Maybe join a ebay forum if you've still got questions. A lot of people are beginning to shy away from etsy and are going to services like big cartel that still use paypal. I've never heard anyone, and I have many blog friends who sell online daily, complain about paypal issues.

OK.Thanks a lot.But I have heard that some merchants deals with some other issues and troubles,Like I have heard If someone has your paypal number he can purchase goods and shop online and after weeks, without even being informed and without any pre-knowledge you will recieve a recipt that informs you,you must pay for what you haven't bought! In this case How could you prove that you haven't had any purchasings and you have been abused ?

I would think it would be as safe as any other online financial activity. Use good passwords, watch out for spam emails, and contest unauthorized transactions through you bank not through paypal. Don't wait to lose your money. My online bank statements show immediately when any transaction is made even if the money hasn't left the account yet. That would be your time to catch someone committing fraud. As soon as you see a bogus transaction call your bank! Like anything online it's your job to protect yourself. Nothing in life is 100% safe.

Could someone hack your account?

Yes. It's totally possible if someone knew your user name and password, like a friend or family member they could use your account. (If you're on a shared computer you'd want to always log out of your account.) Again you'd be able to detect this and stop payment on the goods, if you're vigilant in watching your daily account activity. If the money had already come out of your account....like weeks later to get this money back you'd most likely have to press charges against who ever illegally used your account.

Could someone you don't know who knew your user name hack your account?

Firstly my real question would be would it be worth the time? There are millions of paypal accounts attached to bank accounts and credit cards of unknown limits and funds. How if they did not know you would they realize you had enough money to pay for anything? They wouldn't. I don't see a gifted hacker, with enough knowledge of computers to hack via an untraceable IP address, wasting time running passwords on an account that may or may not have money in it.

Secondly your account should and probably does have a daily spending limit already set on it. Mine is 2,000. In no way, without physically walking into my bank, or writing a check and presenting ID, am I able to get more than 2,000 dollars directly from my bank account. Credit cards also have spending limits. If thousands of dollars suddenly disappears most credit card companies are pretty adept at alerting you.

When I first got married my husbands credit card was charged 3,200 for a Forklift Rental. It showed up on our statement and my husband called. The rental company had mistakenly transposed the numbers of a legitimate rental, all money was refunded and no harm done. The credit card company sorted it out with the rental company and all we had to do was alert the fraud center at our credit card company.

Anything abnormally hinky normally sets off alarm bells. We live at the corner of three different states. It's entirely possible for us to have spent money across three states within hours of each other, however the two times we've done this our bank calls us to ask if this is in fact us doing it.

Finally if you are still insanely concerned about it for your own peace of mind I'd recommend setting up two accounts. Keep the large hunk of your money in a separately numbered savings account and keep only the money you'd need to make purchases online, or only enough to keep the account open in the checking, if you're really only going to sell online. We bank with a local bank and I'm able to log into my account and by only the click of a tab I can access my savings account and quickly transfer money to our checking account. This would keep you from losing any money you didn't authorize in the chance of a freak accident.

Honestly I think your worries aren't worth the worry.

During college I worked at a jail for a year. I can honestly tell you over 85 - 90% of the crimes committed that I saw....were committed by close friends or family. This is particularly true of fraud and identity theft but even true of regular theft, burglary, rape, murder, assault, etc.

Use common sense and I don't see you having a problem. Between the safeguards set in place by paypal, your credit card or bank account, and just monitoring your account. I just can't fathom true financial ruin coming from simply using an online secure payment service. I'd be more nervous about sitting my purse down in a restaurant or trusting even my closest of friends with my outright account information.

Great advice!!

Common sense + careful monitoring + don't trust anybody. It's not that hard, but be consistent and make a habit of doing all three all the time.

I've been using paypal for my clients payments for over a year now and haven't yet experience that my account was being hacked or charge me beyond their set service charge.

As per my view it is not more secure because If someone were to obtain your username and pass, they could certainly perform transactions using your account and any associated payment method be it bank account, credit card, etc. How difficult they'd be to trace would depend on how this was done.

I do not have a problem with Paypal actually. It has been able to serve its purpose right and effectively, as well as securely. I think somewhere along the line, the guy has just got to end up being careful for himself.

Paypal is definitely secure. Its owners are also the owners of ebay. This is a high finance business, and they are doing so well. I am so sure they will have enough to spend for the best of their business.

I've honestly never had any problems with faulty disputers on Paypal. It's not very expensive to get a tracking number for your sales. I would definitely recommend it to protect yourself. Add this cost to your shipping charge.

I would also make sure to describe your items VERY well. Because eBay will even hold resolved disputes against you. Even if the customer is happy, and the problem is corrected!
