I have tremendous respect for anything Prof. Stiglitz has to say. (It's hard to know what honorific to use; he's got so many)

There's a series of lectures by him - I think it's six hours long? - on DVD. I borrowed a copy from my public library. Anybody who wants to have an informed background about globalization needs to get ahold of that -- and watch the entire six hours. I guarantee it's not boring.

So, when he publishes something about concentration of wealth, I think we'd best pay attention.

That was a fascinating article on the inequality in the US with links to unrest in the middle east. I agree that as the inequality grows in the US the chances of revolution increase and a tipping point becomes inevitable. It would be interesting to look at the Gini Coefficients of the countries at the moment of uprising.

I've been speaking with a woman in Egypt who says that salaries were increased 15% immediately when the uprising began. Mubarak was trying to settle things, pacify, but the people had had enough (tyrant).

Look at the "TITLE" on this related article: Idea

Trouble was, food prices went up a whole lot more than 15%.

Found something else there yesterday; that I was unaware of: Vermont has began a movement for state-wide state-paid health insurance, all citizens.
