Gas Pump Prices  Reply with quote

Seems timely given the recent and steady climb in prices at the pump. $3.69 here in NY today. Any guesses when it will return to near $3.00 per gallon (if ever) and what event will create that return?

Seriously, how are any of us going to be able to drive at all if the prices keep increasing? This is so upsetting!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see it returning for some time, which is why I'm exercising even more frugality than usual. Some people have no choice but to drive to work, but for those who have other options, it would be best for us all to cut back as much as possible.

We've been down this road before. In the middle of 2006 gas prices got down to around $2.00 a gallon, but in the middle of 2008 they rose to around $4.10 a gallon. At the beginning of 2009 gas was around $1.60 a gallon, now in 2011 they have climbed back to $3.60 a gallon. So, we are still well below the 2008 level. No one knows what's going to happen.

But notice how each time gas prices spike, the price at which the people begin to scream bloody murder gets higher and higher. Each spike desensitizes so the point of pain is reached at a higher price next time. Almost as if it were planned that way ..... but it's just human nature. It takes a higher point of pain before people begin modifying their activity based on the price.

That's just the issue of the wisdom/madness of crowds -- the level of hatred people have for prices and how they are happy and not hating certain gas pumps which are selling gas cheaply...it's very sad human psychology and is very weak.

The gas prices will have problems for a while and highly likely, we will be seeing more damage if we go to war with any other countries (highly likely)

I expect that we'll see the prices maintain there levels until fall comes around again. Summer is a time of high consumption.

What poorly planned war are you predicting the US will get involved in this time?

Gas prices are up to $4 per gallon in Cali as well. The gas prices will continue to rise as long as there is unrest in the middle east and fear of revolution in many Islamic states. Uncertainty causes oil futures to rise as people worry about supply disruptions.

Expect prices to rise more. Prices of oil will not be reduced until after the summer vacation season at the earliest. Demand for oil increases during the summer months as more people travel for vacation.

The world isn't coming to an end, we've seen this before a couple of years ago. It makes for good news though.
