Medicaid can be a life saver for someone who has nothing and has health issues. Or it can be horrible for someone who has some assets but not enough to solve their current medical problems and they have to give up or give away all their assets to qualify to get medicaid. Very Happy

In my case, I was able to get a lot of help from Medicaid. So I definitely would say that Medicaid was a lot of help.

It's always good to hear a story where a governmental based social program worked and actually did what it was intended to do. Maybe not always but at least it worked in this case and that's a good start.Very Happy

Medicaid has a lot of limitations and eligibility categories namely: income, assets, age, pregnancy, disability, blindness, income and resources, and one's status as a U.S. citizen or a lawfully admitted immigrant.

It's better if you have an LTC plan for yourself instead of relying on Medicaid. That way, you're guaranteed of a good health care in the future.

I didn't vote because I'm somewhere in the middle on this. Medicaid is good for those who truly need it. It's bad because so many cheat the system and/or take advantage of it.

Your opinion? Or have you facts and figures in support?

Both. It's my opinion. I don't have facts and figures, but there are stories periodically on the news about medicaid abuse, people getting busted for ripping off medicaid, etc.

And there are periodically stories in the news about mass food poisoning outbreaks due to contaminated food; recalls of vehicles with stuck accelerators, and you can go on and on citing glaring imperfections in just everything in modern day life, but I see no reason to stop buying food at the supermarket or to stop driving my car, and so likewise I see no reason for blanket condemnation of an entire social safety net program. I'm sorry, I don't mean to pick on you personally, Dana, it's just that general blanket statements like that are made by so many people for the sole reason that they're made by so many people.

Medicaid may have a limited coverage but in some ways, even though little, they lessen the burden of paying for health services
