I heard that Microsoft had the highest bid, beating out Facebook and Google. I wonder if they will begin to charge for calls between computers.

| Is Skype in trouble |
|
|
The story continues!
In checking out Skype’s IPO filed on March 4th 2011 at the SEC, I found the
following statements regarding the violation of patents. Quote:
“We are subject to patent and other intellectual property litigation, which is
inherently time consuming and costly to manage and resolve, could divert
management and financial resources away from our daily business or could change
in our methods of doing business or our products. We expect that we will
increasingly be subject to intellectual property claims as our business
expands.”(Page 33)
In going on they admit in this paper that these litigations could have a severe
impact on further conducting their business and/or on their prospective income.
While Microsoft has made a unbelievable high offer which will cancel Skype’s
plans of going public a third lawsuit has been filed in the United States
District Court of Virginia on May 10th with regards to the violation of the same
patents.
It will be interesting to watch now from the sideline how this deal will go
through.
Give me your thoughts on this

I've never used skype. I've been using the free google voice, but tied through sipsorcery servers which tie it to my home or cell phone or any number that I wish to call from or to (including WIFI & Soft phones).
Cellular phone deals going right now, Tracfone's ValuePlan and ATT GoPhone both have deals for $7 monthly for 40 minutes (you pay quarterly). Net10 has a deal for 500 minutes for $25 monthly or Unlimited minutes for $75 mo. I rarely use the phone, and so the $7 monthly works well for me.

I have not heard of this news either. Skype has been very useful to me for contacting online business assembly not to mention my ancestors too. It would be sad to see it go down or close.

I hope so not cause I have been using Skype for a long time and it has not failed to my use. Maybe it is just some glitch somewhere that IT people would be able to prevent from ruining skype.

Strange that these social sites want everyone to put everything on the table like they do (personal info). It's certainly a tool for the identity theft market, stalking, insurance fraud, you name it. I use a fake name and ID; where only my friends and family are clued-in.
I do not use Skype because Google Voice is totally free US calling, no strings attached, no ID, no $, and no verify required. I've used google voice for many years now, had no problems at all. You can also dial your own google voice number and use it to make free long distance calls. Another trick is to set it to run on WIFI Hotspot capable cell phones. Some cell phones allow WIFI Calling with no cellular service connection to the phone (no cellular plan minutes used/deducted).
