Why I believe you should always use credit cards- not cash  Reply with quote

With the abundance of rewards credit cards out there, if you are disciplined enough to use your credit card only for purchases you can afford to pay off every month, you should use credit to buy everything from gas to groceries. I have earned enough points to get enough gift cards from Home Depot to buy all supplies to completely remodel my bathroom (about $1200 in gift cards). But there are numerous different types of rewards programs from a point system, to a direct cash rebate system. I recommend you use moneyinfoline dot com to read more about this subject. THink of how much you spend in a year on everyday purchases/neccesseties then figure out how much of that money would come back to you- I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

Yeah, I've saved money on cars from reward programs, it's nice as long as you don't lose those savings to interest charges. I've even funneled some of my bills thru the CC to earn more rebates.

I do the same thing i spend as much as i can funnel through my Discover card then just pay it off at the end of month. It is a great way to earn rewards/money as LONG as you pay the bill off at the end of the month!

I once did a cash advance from discover in the 80s. Got paid intrest and paid no intrest or fees on the advance.

Made a couple of dollars in intrest.

Hmm interesting, I have never thought about that, but it does make sence, I normally do pay off my CC every month, I have been a big cash only guy, My thoughts are if I cant afford to pay cash for it I dont need/deserve it.
Took me a long time to wake up to that, after some very hard times finacially.

Thanks for the tip

Rick

I have one very memorable experience from when I was younger and grocery shopping with my mom. I don't know how we got on the topic, but the cashier said to me, "Don't get involved with credit cards. They run people into debt." Later, in the car, my mom carefully explained to me why he said that, and why she and my father used/use credit cards all the time. Discipline, she said, was key. Basically, avoiding credit cards was only for people who could not control themselves.

Anyway, just a little story for your enjoyment.

wouldnt you think theres a catch? how do the credit companies make money if they reward it in points all the time? you might be earning points, but you are still probably paying some type of interest.

Because very few people actually go ahead and pay off the card. They get enough people to carry balances and it pays them in spades.

Hehe, we'll see. If you want chocolate chip cookies, though, you'll have to wait until after Lent Very Happy

The credit card industry is all about getting people to overspend. That's the way they profit. You just have to take advantage of their allowing you to profit.

Okay, wait a second -

I'm hoping that you gave up chocolate chip cookies for lent, rather than the first thing that popped into my mind - your chocolate chip cookies don't have meat in them, do they?? Rolling Eyes

What about using a debit card, instead of a credit card, do they have such rewards for debit cards for those with difficulty managing credit cards?
