Here in the Philippines, all credit cards are centralized with single database. This means that once a debt is not aid off, the name pf the card owner is blacklisted, a he can not apply for other credit cards anymore. Morally speaking, it is not good because there will be strings attached.

Well, you are blacklisted here for 7 years. 10 to 12 years for bankruptcy and lawsuits. Then you get a fresh start (cancer in remission) 
Unless you're Bill Gates, you're just one serious illness away from bankruptcy.

I think the best solution here is to stay in contact with them, send them letters of explanation. Then, asking for amnesty or staggard payments would be good.

Focus on your mortgage, rent or car, after all, you didn't create this economic meltdown, the gov. and banks did, so you have to take care of your self first and foremost.
