Wireless power would be such an incredible advance, and it's not just a matter of distribution infrastructure. Imagine no powerlines cluttering up the skyline. Imagine cars, trains, boats, even airplanes powered by electric powerplants WITH NO BATTERIES. Imagine powerplants in outer space .... nuclear power plants and NO NUCLEAR WASTE PROBLEM.
BUT -- inductive coupling won't cut it. Field strength decreases as the cube of the distance. It's OK for recharging my wireless headset's internal battery. But it's not going to power my electric car.
I'm glad inventors are trying to find a solution, though. Also hope they keep working on nuclear fusion generators.
