Unsure about that one.
It was a lot of visitors, but could have been due to an SEO tactic to get indexed better, resulting in lots of bots crawling the site.
Couldn't give you a definite answer though.

I wasn't registered here when that happened but my guess is that it was a lot of visitors. I don't think they were trying to get to that much, it was probably just an accident. Although, I'm just guessing here.

I don't believe those stats. There's some error in their counting methodology. This is phpBB version 2; there's really no point in wading through code trying to figure it out.

Sigh.....when you get my curiosity going, it's hard to turn it off. I've been digging through some php code to try to find an answer. However, it's phpBB3 code, so I can answer for phpBB3 but not 2. There's code in there to avoid counting multiple sessions of the same user. However, it depends on reading session id. Guests session ids are discarded when they leave the board. Heck, they might even vaporize on page changes. I'm guessing it was a busy day plus heavy bot activity. (a number of new postings would draw the bots and they'd spend more time on the site.) If the session id for a guest dies on page unload, then one bot indexing the site could generate quite a few "visits". I haven't seen any such high numbers on my board, so I'm guessing this might be something that was "fixed" when phpBB3 was rolled out. Even under v3 there are two "guests" when I'm the only one on the site. They're both google bots.
