Can anybody please advise me on some good advertising techniques and tell me how much it would cost. Advertising on the web is so overwhelming, I would like to hear from people that are getting some success. If anyone has free ways to advertise that would be the greatest.
I'm in college so if anybody can help me advertise, I can return your favor and put flyers around campus to help you advertise your business too.

What are you wanting to advertise? Is it a website, are you selling something? If it is a website, is your site listed in any of the search engines?? (this is KEY)

There are basically two areas for a given set of search engine results.
The natural / free listings
and
The PPC / paid listings
The natural listings can't be bought per see, they might be influenced by optimizing your website via SEO. Search engine optimization. SEO can be an incredibly complex subject, but much of it boils down to good webmastering. Read the following for more SEO info...

A paid listing, other the other hand, can be purchased thru a system known as PPC. Pay-per-click. Read this thread for some basic PPC info...

But to answer your question, PPC starts at $0.05 per click.

In general the best way to get listed in search engines is first submit your site to them. Also get links form other sites with similar content. Also have new and fresh content often. The more links to your site the better but you also need good content.
I would say hold off on PPC advertising untill you have a somewhat established site.... As you dont want to pay for people to visit the site when the will not return due to lack of content

Good points, XB, although submitting isn't needed for search engines, especially Google. They will find you thru the links to your site, if you don't have links you probably aren't going to get listed anyway. It's a cruel world! Good news is you can get links for free by submitting to directories, etc.

Yes be warned about some directories though as some would be useless to add to while others could be a gold mine. But being a new site. Get a link on any site that will put them up this will increase your chances for a crawl good resource site is www.seochat.com
I just started an adwords campaign for my site i will let you know how it turns out... IT seems to help this site out a good bit...???

I've checked out google adwords and I don't really understand something. I set up a campaign and the cost per day was around $1200. Does that mean I would have to pay $1200 per day? Can someone explain how exactly this program works.

No that is just their suggestion cost/price if you were to bid at max..... I would suggest at first you do not bid at max but what you want. When i first did mine it suggested 800 a day... but i set it up at first for only 50 cents a day with max 10 cents per click...... I soon realized you get mroe exposure the higher your max per click is so one thing i did was set my max spend per day and max click almost the same as you don't always pay the max click price. Some days i would have 3 clicks at 15 cents each while others i woudl have 2 click for 30 cents etc..... Do know that some days it will go over your click cost per day but over the month you will not exceed that amount.
