New type of Spread Bets  Reply with quote

I have been trading for a long time now and recently come across a bet called basic bet, which is very interesting. Some of the details of the bet are

The bet is called 'Basic Bet', which is easier to place and is more straightforward than bets offered by our competitors. Instead of basing outcomes on complicated arbitrary spreads between 0 and 100, you simply bet on whether the markets will go up or down within a certain time frame. If you're right, you win. This bet is only available on gnutrade trading platform.

This is one problem I have with much trading terminology and philosophy: the use of gambling terminology. Trading is not gambling. Yet, many people treat it that way, with about the same results they have at the c*sino. Trading CAN be profitable if approached the right way, with the correct viewpoint and strategy, and with the proper discipline and methodology. Gambling is never profitable in the c*sino, and it's never profitable, at least not for long, in trading either.

Except Blackjack and Craps? Is that what they call it? with the 2 dices? Anyways, those are the only ones I play because of better odds and probabilities. However, I do agree with you coaster in terms of the viewpoint and strategy. Gambling has no viewpoint, and maybe strategy if you count cards and calculate probabilities which the odds can be broken and never come true. In trading, you are in a way gambling but on fundamentals in which the odds are on your side. I clearly remember when the banks had zero value of their toxic asset and the value of their company was diminishing at a dangerous rate. After hearing many hearings and reading many sources, it was almost definite that these banks would be profitable again. In addition to the FASB 151 alleviation. As soon as I heard that, it was a game changer in banks and I happened to purchase some shares in the financial sector.

My problem with that trading betting platform or whatever you call it is that no one knows the the future. The word "Market" is a very large distinction and category, and sometimes irrational.

Yes, good point. I think that in the short term and for individual issues the market is certainly irrational and random in its behavior. But in the aggregate and over the longer term, it reflects the rational decisions as well as the random (or betting) decisions of all the market participants, and since it's the rational decisions that produce profit over the longer term, and because they are the positions that are held and not liquidated, the market as a whole is rational over the longer term.
